Back to School Edition

Looking Forward to the New Year

Last school year I shared my vision as a leader and commitment to providing your child an excellent educational experience built on the foundation of Relationships, Rigor and Relevance in learning. Dedicated Wolfsville educators spent time last year examining our instructional practices and collaborating to ensure EVERY student's needs were being met and we were best utilizing our resources. We have much to celebrate as a result of our work together! Our staff members further explored and collaborated to provide innovative structures and supports to meet students needs, utilized technological resources to personalize learning tailored to skill and interest for larger portions of students school day and we celebrated academic growth in multiple subject areas across each grade level.

For this coming year we hope to continue to capitalize off of these wins and further utilize strong collaboration among staff members to support and grow your learner! You may notice we will use flexible grouping structures based on academic growth and a variety of our skilled educators will be working in classrooms. Furthermore, we will continue to examine student agency and fostering choice and pace of skills with technological resources that interest and excite our learners!

I am greatly looking forward to another exciting school year at Wolfsville and thank you in advance for serving as partners in the coming year. Together we will continue our mission of empowering students to ‘experience the pride of achievement through the power of learning’.

Back to School Night

We will have our annual back to school night prior to the start of the school year this year on Thursday, August 30 from 6:00-7:00 PM. We decided to have this informative event early to ensure our families have all of the information and expectations for their child's new grade level prior to the official start of the school year. The structure of the evening will remain the same as previous years. We will begin with a short PTA general meeting and classroom teachers will offer 2 information sessions. In these sessions teachers will share information related to grading policies, curriculum, classroom rules & routines, schedules and much more! Feel free to bring your child's school supplies to drop off during the event. If you are unable to attend our back to school night you may e-mail your child's classroom teacher for a copy of the information shared.

Prevent Summer Slide

Research indicates up to two months of reading skills and two and a half months of math skills can be lost over the summer months. This loss of academic skills can accumulate over the years and equate to a loss of almost 2 school years of learning lost due to summer slide. Therefore, it is important to find time for your child to read and practice skills over the summer! Attached in this newsletter are a variety of links you can access as well as enjoy creative ways of your own to practice reading and math skills with your child this summer!

Kindergarten Information

We look forward to welcoming our new and returning Wolfvillle families and their Kindergarten students! A welcome letter will be arriving at the home of all registered students the first week of August providing families valuable kindergarten related information. One important piece of information in this letter explains our staggered opening schedule for your child. To ease your child into their first full day learning experience, we stagger the opening days for them. The staggered opening offers children an opportunity to meet their teacher - Mrs. Gretchen Keary in a more personalized atmosphere with a small number of students. Beginning September 4th, one-third of the kindergarten class will attend, one-third on Wednesday the 5th, and one-third on Thursday the 6th. On Friday September 7th and every day thereafter, all kindergarten students come to school. You can call the front office at 20-236-2250 if you still have questions once you receive your welcome letter.

Find out First Upgrade

Frederick County Public Schools is upgrading its FindOutFirst (FOF) email and texting communication service. Parents will no longer need to update their children’s grade levels each summer or change school locations in their FOF accounts.

Instead, the school system will upload this information, including the email address the parent has on file with the school. This will cut down on the volume of email parents receive as schools can rely on targeting their messages to accurate grade-level groups. Therefore, it is important that we have your correct e-mail address and phone number on your child's emergency contact form.

The Summer Meals Program begins Monday, June 18th.

Breakfast and Lunch will be served Mon-Thurs from June 18th- August16th.
