Ms. Aubrey's RELA Class

Class Update for Families

Introduction

Hello Buck Lodge families!

I am excited to share some updates from our Honors RELA class. This online newsletter is a new form of communication that I was introduced to recently. I hope to send out more frequent updates of what is happening in our class. I encourage parents to visit our classroom and check out our students hard at work!

What's Happening In Our Class?!

During Quarter 3, students have successfully completed several different tests, including the SLO post-test, SRI benchmark, and the literacy writing task. Our Honors class as a whole improved by 20% on the SLO post-test, and our SRI average moved from 1050 to 1130. I am proud of the progress our students are making this year! Our class took these tests in stride and we are excited to move on to Quarter 4! During Quarter 3, students also completed Biography Projects, which they shared with the class in a formal presentation.

Upcoming Units:

* Presidential Debate & Student Voting

* Drama

* Author Study

* Novel/Film Study

Scholastic Book Orders

Every month, I pass out Scholastic Book Order forms to students. Books vary in price from $1 to $20 and so on. The more books our class orders, the more points we have to spend on books for the classroom. Students get so excited when we receive those big boxes full of new books!

If you would like to place an order online, you may join our class with this code: p9v92. The link below will take you to the website where you can enter the code.

Reading At Home

Students are not assigned homework every night, but they are expected to be reading at home every night. Students are encouraged to check out up to 3 books from our school library. In addition, students can take books home from our classroom library.

Newseum Field Trip!

Thursday, April 14th, 9am

555 Pennsylvania Avenue Northwest

Washington, DC

Mrs. Maher, our team's social studies teacher, has organized an awesome field trip to the Newseum in Washington D.C. Students will have a chance to explore the museum and learn about history through newspapers. If you would like to attend, please feel free to call or e-mail me. Parents must be fingerprinted through the county for all field trips. This is a county policy. We hope to see you there!
