Veteran's Day
Hannah Beardsley Middle School would like to honor family members or friends who have served in the Armed Forces. We would like to invite these courageous men and women to attend a short assembly with their HBMS student or staff member, where our Hannah Beardsley family will honor and thank them, then treat our veterans to a Cookies and Coffee/Cocoa Social. If you have a veteran you like to have honored at the assembly, please complete this form or call Mrs. Alberth at (815)788-5750. Students will be in attendance 7:40 to 2:14 on this day.
Community Harvest Food Drive
Hannah Beardsley is proud to support the Crystal Lake Food Pantry and looks forward to participating in the 32nd annual Community Harvest Food Drive. Last year, District 47 schools donated 7,723 pounds of food, which equates to nearly 6,500 meals! See this year’s flyer for most wanted food and household items. Monetary donations are also appreciated; checks can be made payable to the Crystal Lake Food Pantry. Donations will be accepted until Wednesday, November 16th. On this day students will be walking to the Food Pantry to deliver the collected donations during their PE class.
Project B3 for Middle School
Since 2016, District 47 has been teaching students how to Be Safe, Be Smart and Be Kind online through a student-led, digital citizenship program called Project B3. Approximately 30-40 eighth graders from each middle school are selected to participate in this program each fall and are tasked with preparing and delivering presentations for their middle school peers in November and for D47 elementary students (grades 3-5) in the spring.
On November 14th and 15th, student B3 leaders will present their digital citizenship program to all 6th, 7th and 8th graders at their respective schools. Topics covered will include screen time, online safety, digital literacy, cyberbullying and creating a healthy digital footprint. After the discussion, students will take a brief survey about screen time and their use of technology. The survey will be anonymous; email addresses and student names will not be collected. Survey results will be used to plan for next year’s digital citizenship program and future parent educational opportunities. Should you wish to opt your student out of the survey, please email communications@d47.org by Friday, November 11.

Creative Careers Expo
Our goal in District 155 is to provide each student with an opportunity to explore career pathways through our Career Experiences Program (CEP). Nearly 20 percent of our students have identified interests in a variety of creative careers in architecture and design, the arts, advertising and marketing, culinary arts, event planning, fashion, interior design, journalism, music, and public relations. In an effort to foster those interests and inform students about creative careers, D155 will host a Creative Careers Conference on January 28, 2023, at Prairie Ridge High School. This three-hour event will connect students to professionals and companies through a large, hands-on expo, a student panel, and a keynote speaker. Parents & guardians of middle school students are invited to attend with their students.
Registration for students in grades 6-8 is available starting November, 16 at 8 AM. Space is limited. Please use this link https://forms.gle/Ub6nd6bdCgfaXHiw8 to register.

Lost and Found
We have a variety of lost items and would like to find their owners! Lost and found is located in the cafeteria. Please ask your child to check this area if you're missing anything. Any electronic items, jewelry, glasses, watches, house keys, or ear buds/pods, are located in the Student office. Please claim your lost items. All items not claimed will be donated Nov 16th.
Item Drop-Off for Students
We are experiencing an unusual number of incidents in which parents are dropping off items for students. There are work-arounds that will save parents time and effort and minimize disruption to our classrooms and learning environment. Please note the following:
- Loaner gym uniforms are cleaned regularly. Students can use a loaner uniform and participate in gym during the day if they forget their uniform.
- Loaner Chromebooks are available so a student can complete all assignments in the school day without needing their own device.
- Lunches can be given to cafeteria supervisors, who then get them to students during their lunch period.
- Band instruments can be given to the band department. Students can then retrieve them during their allotted band time.
