The Battle of Gettysburg by Chris Imsdahl
Camp
- More people died in camp than on battlefield by a ratio of 2:1.
- During days while soldiers were not fighting they would spend their time listening to a form of music or playing cards or even gambling of some sort.
- When mail came or a care package it was always a time to celebrate because you could see what your loved ones are up to.
- For a overnight shelter as you can see was a thin piece of cloth and said by Srg.Austin C Stearns,"it was a 6 feet squared cloth with row of buttons and button holes on three sides so you could connect with someone else."
- Food was limited and not healthy for the soldiers and got very little vitamins like they should be getting.

- The First day they collided on west and north side of town on July 1st, 1863 and more confederat soldiers reached the point first but there was 30,000 of them and so they beat the union
- The second day the Union defended a little better. They defended a range of hills but the confederates wrapped around them and Lee led assault on Unions left flank and gained ground but didn't push Union back who held their position.
- Day 3! Fighting resumed in Culps Hill and the main attack was by the Confederates when they had an assault on Unions center line known as Picketts Charge. Union defended well and that came at a great loss for confederates and Lee realized that and retreated.
- A total of 51,112 deaths during this 3 day battle.
Lincoln Speaks again!
Lincoln dedicated a ceremony to the soldiers who lost their lives at Gettysburg and he redefined the purpose for the war in his Gettysburg Address.
