Happy Half -Term
It has been a busy half-term and the year seems to be racing!
There has been a lot of work going on behind the scenes on developing the children's learning behaviours and personalising learning for the children to support them in plugging some of their learning gaps after what has been a challenging two years for everyone. This week staff have been analysing progress and we have been really pleased.
After all of their hard work, I am sure that the children are ready for a break and we hope you all have a wonderful half-term week and are able to enjoy spending some time together.
A huge well done to our Spelling Bee winners, Ben Nevis, and our Times Tables Champions, Snowdon. All of the children made a huge effort so well done to all of them. Big thanks to the Teaching Assistants for their efforts in organising the event.
I am looking at putting in place a sports camp for a couple of days in the summer holidays in partnership with Hull FC. This would be free of charge and would include a packed lunch for each child. I would really appreciate it if you could let me know whether you think this would be a good idea by clicking the button below. If we get enough interest we will endeavor to have this up and running this summer.
Have a lovely half-term and we look forward to seeing you on Monday 28th February.
Miss Bishell-Wells
Pearls
We have had a very busy half term in Pearls and we have enjoyed our ‘Jungle’ theme.
Last week, we read ‘The Tiger Who Came to Tea’ and we had our own tea parties in our role play area, painted tiger pictures and looked at animal prints to make our own repeating patterns with the coloured cubes. This week we have focused on the story ‘Handa’s Surprise’ and we have been looking at exotic fruits. We have been drawing them, describing them and making (and eating!) our fruit salads. We also made cards on Monday to celebrate Valentine’s day. In Maths, we have been continuing to add numbers together and match numerals to amounts.
Next half term, we will be learning about the ‘Weather’ and also looking at the seasons. Have a lovely half term break everyone!
Rubies
This week in Rubies we have been learning to write letters to persuade the teacher to let Beegu stay in school.
We have also been thinking about how to work effectively as a team in our PHSE lesson.
As it was Valentine's Day, we spent time designing and making Valentines cards to give to those who were special to us!
Diamonds
This week in Diamonds, we have been keeping up our amazing English work by investigating the features of descriptive poems. We used our knowledge of Hobbiton to set the scene of our very own poem. We up-levelled our adjectives to level 100 and learnt how to use similes to make our descriptions unique.
In Maths, we have been deepening our knowledge of measurement by designing our own houses using pegboards and elastic bands. After this, we measured carefully using a ruler to calculate the perimeter of our homes in our maths books.
On Wednesday, one of the diamonds brought in a birthday cake and Haribos for all of their friends. The fun did not stop there as on Thursday we had even more fun for achieving our reading rewards. We had ice-cream, a film and a spelling competition which was competitive to say the least! Friday meant our Times Tables Competition and we were all extremely excited competing in our House Teams - you might have even heard us in Goole!
Sapphires
Examples of just some of the success we have had this year so far
This picture is repeated across other classes and we are all incredibly proud of the children. Thank you too for all of the support you give your children with their reading.
Reading Rewards Reminder
Bronze - 12 reads
Silver - 16 reads
Gold - 20 reads
Reading clubs are worth 3 reads each and will restart again during week 2.
Reads can be logged on Tapestry, Seesaw or on paper. If your child is younger sharing a story with them counts as a read this means that it is accessible to all.
World Book Day
We will be holding our World Book Day a day later on Friday 4th March. Children can come dressed as a book character or in their pjs.

Homework and Supporting your Child
Homework including spellings can be found on your child's Sessaw or Tapestry account along with their SMIRFS target (this is age dependant). If you are having any difficulties please see a member of your child's class team.
Knowledge organisers with key things for your child to learn will soon be available on their class pages and we will send a link out for these during the first week back.
