Community Service for 2020-2021 School Year
Raney, CFIS, and Centennial IB programs have worked together to ensure all schools have the same expectations and requirements for Community Service. Below is a link to the updated Community Service Handbook for the 2020-2021 school year that now aligns with the other IB schools. I encourage parents and students to take some time to go through this completely before the new school year. Here are some of the important highlights as it pertains to summer hours:
- Only returning students can do summer hours - students new to the program are asked to wait until they have attended Mrs. Martinez's Community Service tutorial so she can show you how to submit your service hours for credit.
- Only 5 hours for 7th grade and 7 hours for 8th grade of summer hours will be counted towards their total for the new school year. The remaining hours must be completed during the school year (10 hours for 7th and 13 hours for 8th during the school year)
- All activities must be recorded on the most recent Community Service Logs, which have changed from last year. The Ongoing Log is for a service that is done in the same location for multiple days during the quarter, for example, tutoring or No Drama Ranch. The Single Day Log is for any event that you do once per quarter.
- NO doubling up on events on the same day, i.e. - Bark for Life from 6 am – 2 pm (8hrs) on May 5th, then going to Arthritis Walk from 3 pm to 11 pm (8hrs) on May 5th.
- Students may not volunteer for more than 8 hours per day.
- Please take special note of the Events/Activities that DO NOT qualify for service credit that can be found on page 8. Some of these have changed from last year.
- If there is a service you would like to do that is not on the approved list or our service website, please fill out and submit the Community Service Proposal Form.
- Our Service Submission page will be moved to the Raney Website - along with all other program-related information and documents, all things related to community service will be found on the Raney Website: https://bit.ly/RaneyCommService
Please Note - service may look a little different this year due to social distancing guidelines and closures of locations. It is always advised that students not procrastinate, but especially important this year! Any remote service events listed on our webpage can be done, but evidence of the work completed (pictures, emails w/coordinators, screenshots, etc) must be provided in place of the coordinator's signature. As always - parent signatures on logs will not be accepted.
