Tashua School Weekly Updates
Mrs. Neumeyer, Principal
May 28, 2021
Dear Tashua Families,
As we break for the three day Memorial Day weekend, it is important to discuss with your children the significance behind this special day of remembrance. Originally known as Decoration Day, Memorial Day started in the years following the Civil War. It is a holiday that is meant to honor the brave men and women who have served our country. At Tashua School each student planted an American flag on the front lawn to create a flag garden of red, white and blue to commemorate the holiday. A heartfelt thanks goes out to the Manna-Scaturchio Family for providing our school with the American flags. The flags will be displayed through the weekend and then collected on Tuesday to be reused next year. We are looking forward to making this a new Tashua tradition, complimenting our usual annual Memorial Day assembly.
Tashua School will be marching in the Trumbull Memorial Day Parade this year. We are very excited to share the Grand Marshal of this year's parade is Army Reserve Lt. Col. Robert Mraz, the grandfather of the Marr boys Zander, Sebastian and alumni Aaron. We are looking forward to honoring those who have sacrificed their lives, serving our country.
Army Reserve Lt. Col. Robert Mraz' biography:
The parade steps off at 10am from the Long Hill Green. Tashua School will assemble at 9am at Trumbull Animal Hospital. Parking will be limited in the green area so consider getting a ride to the start. Please wear your Tashua Tiger spirit wear and add some patriotic accessories. Masks for unvaccinated individuals are recommended to be worn while at the assembly point, but may be removed during the parade. Any questions please contact Shannonldiaz@yahoo.com or (203) 414-4247 on the morning of the parade.
Our students were thrilled to wrap up this week by participating in Field Day. Students in Grades 3-5 had Field Day on Thursday and Grades K-2 enjoyed Field Day today. As always, Mr. Richard and Mr. Cohen did an amazing job planning for these festive days! Mrs. Thomas also did an outstanding job assisting the students in creating tie dye shirts to wear for the day. This fun-filled event provided an energetic day of outside activity for each grade level. Thank you to the volunteers who helped make each day a huge success: Lina Adams, Melissa Barbiero, Dina Barnaby, Marian Baxter, Lauren Blanchette, Matilda Brahimi, Florencia Boates, Jenn Burke, Liz Caskin, Joshua Conklin, Maureen Decker, Shannon Diaz, Jessica DiBuono, Erica DiMartino, Sarah Harper, Malina Herrera, Becky Hudzik, Amanda Kearns, Ellen Kocher, Lisa Lambert, Joelle Landino, Christine Lascano, Summer Louis, Maria Manias, Sarah Merolla, Betty Montijo, Christina Noble, Kelly O'Neill, Erika Pierce, Layla Pellegrino, Marcy Rende, Stefanie Rubano, Alison Squiccimarro, Nicole Steeger, Kelly Taraska, Katie Targowski, Allison Tedesco, Christina Teixeira, and Stacy Wilson.
As a reminder, if you have a Grade 5 student and have not yet picked up your graduation yard sign, please do so as soon as possible. Signs are now located at the Tashua School office. A special thank you goes out to all parents who helped create, organize and distribute the signs including: Laura Citarella, Julie DiMarco, Lisa Lambert and Kelly O'Neill.
As always, please do not hesitate to reach out to me with any questions, concerns, suggestions or good news to share.
Warm regards,
Mrs. Neumeyer
