Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) Stakeholder Committee – Call For Participation
The Every Student Succeeds Act(ESSA) replaces No Child Left Behind (NCLB) and reauthorizes the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) of 1965. ESSA is meant to ensure that all students have equitable access to high-quality educational resources and opportunities, as well as to close educational achievement gaps. As part of the regulations, a stakeholder committee must be formed to provide feedback and input to the resources and decisions made regarding the grant monies. ESSA Stakeholder engagement is a vehicle for bringing together educators and families as well as representatives of the community who have a stake in the law and also bring particular assets and expertise that can support the education of our young people. If you are interested, click here for more details and application to be part of this committee.

SBHS Music Collecting for local hospitals throughout the holiday season and Winter Concerts
The South Brunswick Music Department hopes to bring more than cheer through their music by collecting toys for local Pediatric hospitals. For the fourth year, inspired by the “Friends of JJ” movement to bring holiday gifts to the children at local area hospitals, the Music Department will be collecting donations of new unwrapped toys and games throughout the holiday season and at each of their concerts December 12th, 13th, 14th and 19th. Toys can also be dropped off in the band room or main office from now until December 19th. Gift cards will also be accepted. Friends of JJ Flyer
Extended Absences
We have received a number of requests recently asking permission for students to be allowed to travel for extended periods of time. The administration cannot grant permission to these requests. We would like to remind parents that there is a state education law that requires students to attend school regularly. At SBHS, when students are absent for 10 consecutive days, students are withdrawn from our school. If they return to us after that period of time, they must re-enroll. We strongly suggest that parents do not schedule vacations/trips during the school year. Missing instructional time is detrimental to the teaching/learning process.
