Jane Addams School Updates
March 11, 2021
Illinois Assessments and Measures of Academic Progress
Each year, all Illinois public schools are required to administer state assessments like the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) and the Illinois Science Assessment (ISA) to its students. Although the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) has asked the United States Department of Education to waive this requirement due to the impact of COVID-19, the waiver was, unfortunately, denied. As such, ISBE has instructed school districts to begin preparing to administer the IAR to students in grades 3 - 6 and ISA to students in grades 5 at Jane Addams. The assessment window for these tests is April 1-May 15. ISBE has also indicated that ALL students will be asked to complete IAR and ISA in person at their school. We will be sending a form to see if you require transportation for these assessments.
In addition, our school will be assessing our 2-6 graders utilizing the MAP assessment this spring. This testing window is April 1 through May 21st. Students will be assessed using the full growth assessment. This information will not directly correlate to the Fall Assessment of MAP, as this was the shorter, screener version of the assessment.
SPARK Upcoming Meeting Mar. 15, 2021 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM
Neurological Foundations: Assessment & Treatment
Dr. Suzanne Joseph, Doctor of Physical Therapy from Hands On Health Manual & Physical Therapy Services, LLC, offices in Naperville and Inverness, will join us. New research demonstrates the strong ability the nervous system has at any age to heal and further develop. Research also supports the need for specific therapies that mimic the way we originally learned. This presentation will show techniques to assist the nervous system to advance no matter what the challenge or development stage.

Safety Updates
Our neighbors along with the Palatine Police Department are asking our families to be mindful of street signs and access in and out of Jane Addams driveways.
This year, we realize more and more families are driving their student(s) to school. We greatly appreciate your concern for our walkers and consideration for our neighbors. Please do not leave your running vehicle unattended in the drive. If needed, park your car in the lot next to the school and walk your child to the front.
In addition, please follow all posted parking and street signs. The Palatine Police Department will be monitoring and aiding us in the traffic flow at drop-off and pick-up.
Ms. Dime's Nurse Update
Students going into 6th grade will need an updated Physical examination and 2 immunizations.
The immunizations required are T-Dap and Meningococcal.
Due to the Covid Pandemic, appointments may take longer to schedule than in the past. Families may want to take advantage of Spring Break week to complete this.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs. Dime in our health office @ 847-963-5002 or
Health Office email: dimeb@ccsd15.net
Please remember to complete the self-certification card for your students daily.
A new medication form is required at the beginning of each school year and available here for your convenience. We continue to find parents request this form from time to time. Please call us if you have specific questions.
