The Siegrist Star
January 30, 2023
In three, two, one....action!
Hello Siegrist Families,
We hope you have had a wonderful week. We want to say thank you for your flexibility as we navigated our first 2-Hour Late Start. The day went smoothly and it was so great to have all of our Siegrist leaders with us on Wednesday.
This week we are excited to highlight one of the many student leadership roles at Siegrist.. Siegrist Live is focused on bringing daily announcements to our school. Students learn about broadcasting through anchoring the announcements, video taping, editing video footage, conducting interviews and even producing commercials for special events. The daily announcements are then shown to our classrooms every morning. Siegrist Live is mentored by Tina Kaiser.
Siegrist Live was the recipient of a Platte County Education Foundation site grant that allowed us to purchase the equipment needed to start this important leadership group.
Please take a moment to catch a glimpse of one of the daily broadcast shows from Siegrist Live.
All the best,
Mrs. Johna-Kaye Sutton

February 13-17 is our Pirates ROCK "Character Warms the Heart" week, when we warm up with our good character and great leadership with fun spirit week activities and collect items for our Treasure Chest resource center to help PCR-3 families in need. We're collecting shampoo & conditioner, body wash, deodorant, and cereal this year. Participate in our spirit days and send in any donations to our schools! Reminder: Friday, February 17 there is no school for our District Inservice Day, a great day to send a nice note to a friend or staff member. See flier for details on our spirit days and come cheer on our Pirates at the Home Basketball games on February 14!
Early Engineers Registration is now open.
Bricks 4 Kidz Early Engineers LEGO® Club is a fun, hands-on class where students build machines, vehicles, contraptions, and other motorized models out of LEGO® components including bricks, gears, axles, motors, etc. Emphasis is placed on the principles of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). Students build a new project each week. Class begins with a teacher-led discussion related to the day’s model and the science behind it. Students then build a motorized model illustrating that concept. This class provides the foundation for Bricks 4 Kidz robotics. Click here to begin registration.
2023-24 Academic Calendar Approved
The Board approved the academic calendar for the 2023-24 school year, as suggested by teachers, support staff, parents and board members on the calendar committee, and taking into consideration feedback during public review. The first day of school on August 22, the last day of school on May 22, and potential makeup days are planned for May 23, 24, and 28-31. It is important to note this calendar makes a shift from 2-hour early release days for Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to full-day Professional Learning Days. The change in approach will provide teachers with more efficient and focused time for professional development, while reducing the number of days parents have to find day care alternatives for their children.

State Assessments and Planning Ahead
PCR3 State Assessment Window Announced!
State assessments, for students in grade 3-5 at Siegrist Elementary, will occur between April 24-May 19, which is our announced PCR3 district assessment window. If you are planning any family vacations, trips, etc and have a student in grades 3-5th, if you could try your best to avoid your child(ren) from being absent during this time (April 24-May 19th) it would be very much appreciated.
