2023 Edition 2 - Week 11 Term 1
FAREWELL ROD CARTER
Rod Carter will be leaving Swansea High School at the end of this Term, taking up the position of Deputy Principal at Whitebridge High School from the beginning of Term 2. Rod came to Swansea High School in 2015 as Head Teacher PDHPE. He has led the PDHPE Faculty in driving high academic achievement and promoted countless sporting opportunities for students. In 2020, Rod was appointed relieving Deputy Principal and has led the school through a period of change and uncertainty. Rod's leadership through the COVID remote learning and return to school through COVID restrictions was simply outstanding. He has been an integral part of the senior executive and his knowledge and expertise will be sorely missed. We wish Rod all the best in his next career challenge and have every trust in his ability to do an outstanding job at Whitebridge High School.
*Nicole Thompson (Head Teacher Admin) will be relieving Deputy Principal in Term 2.

NEWLY ELECTED SRC GET BUSY
Swansea High School SRC and Working Party participated in a leadership day to work towards initiatives and events they would like to implement at Swansea High. Students worked in small groups in think tank activities and focused on ways to approach areas of student engagement, the school environment, wellbeing, attendance, and respect. A big thank you and congratulations to those students who participated – we can’t wait to see how you contribute to the positive things happening in our school! Kieran from LifeChanger recognised the positive contributions you all made and was so thankful to have worked with such a wonderful group of young leaders.

Acknowledgement of Country
Students in our Multi-Categorical Class have created 'Acknowledgement of Country' artworks as a greeting at the entry of their classrooms. They are a beautiful acknowledgement of the traditional custodians of our land and a great welcome to the classroom setting for students, teachers and guests.

Students from our support unit recently participated in an obstacle course mud-run at Doyalson's Raw Challenge with a number of other schools from the Central Coast. Students and staff demonstrated resilience, team work skills and a positive attitude. A thoroughly fun and tiring day was had by all!

LET'S TALK ABOUT CONSENT
Thank you to Steph, a solicitor and part of the legal education team at Legal Aid, for coming in and presenting a workshop to Year 10 students on Monday March 13. Students were walked through the importance of consent, what it means for them, and how to keep themselves and those around them safe by knowing how consent works. Well done to everyone involved in the workshop.
SMASHED PRODUCTION
The Smashed Production is an inspiring live theatre experience. Year 7 were lucky enough to be the audience for the “We Are Gibber” crew where they were led through their social education program. Students were encouraged to consider the difficulties of peer pressure, the impact of poor decisions and the importance of taking personal responsibility for our actions. Thanks to the Gibber team for coming to visit, and we’ll down Year 7 for your involvement!
ACT OF KINDNESS
