Asheville Primary School
APS Family Connection 8/18/2021
We can't wait!
By now, you should have received in the mail a letter about how to access your Parent Portal on PowerSchool (if you are in grades K-4). This gives you access to your child's schedule and later on their grades.
Everyone, including our preschoolers, should have had an email or phone call from their child's teacher welcoming them for the new year and giving directions on home visits or virtual meets and what to expect next week. If you haven't heard from anyone, check your spam folder. Please call the office and let us know if you haven't received anything and we will check your account information. We want to make sure that you have all of the communication from our school.
We are very excited about seeing you tomorrow afternoon at our Welcome Back Social. What a treat it will be to see you and your family!
Please remember to help keep it safe by wearing a mask, distancing, and washing your hands.
Take care,
Tima Williams

After Care At Asheville Primary
We will have an after care option funded by the 21 Century Community Learning Grant on our campus. It will operate Monday through Thursday 2:30-5:30. SPACE IS VERY LIMITED DUE TO STAFFING and TRANSPORTATION IS NOT PROVIDED AT THIS TIME. Staff will be calling/emailing all families on our wait list in order as space is available. If you would like to have your name added to this list, please call Lenore Luster in our front office to add your name to the list. Please understand that until your name is called, you will need to have a plan for after care or transportation for your child.
This program will not operate on half days or staff workdays.
If you are in need of after care and want to know the options, please call Lenore or Polly at 350-2900 to inquire and have your name added to the wait list.
Please remember that all after care options are subject to changes due to the pandemic. Please always have a back up plan for your child's after care.
Welcome Back Social
Join us outside for a meet and greet in our back playground, garden, and field space. We will have a cool treat for your enjoyment and will have several classroom doors open for you to take a sneak peek inside. Preschool and Early Childhood classes will be able to see their room from the outside entrance. If you are a new Lower Elementary student, you may want to sign up for a tour.
If you would like to sign up for a quick guided tour of your hallway, please fill out the form below to reserve a space. Due to Covid restrictions, we will not be having visitors to our building. Having a reservation is the only way to be admitted into the building.
**RAIN PLAN: If rain drives us inside, we will have the outdoor tables move to the gym space with doors open for ventilation.
JOIN US for an Outdoor Work Day this SATURDAY 10-1
- pull weeds in the garden, front entrance, and courtyard

We need GREAT people!
Asheville City Schools has several instructional assistant vacancies at the elementary level for the 2021-2022 school year. Visit https://www.applitrack.com/asheville/onlineapp/default.aspx for details.
These positions are full time positions with benefits (i.e. state retirement, sick days, paid time off, health insurance, and access to supplemental insurance). The best part is you have the opportunity to have a positive impact on children every day.
We are still in need of the following positions:
- cafeteria workers
- instructional assistants
- school library/media digital lead teacher
Many schools across our district are struggling with finding new staff to fill positions and we are no exception. Until those positions are filled, please allow grace to our staff as we all fill in to make sure that everything is taken care of for our students. Thank you!
COVID SAFETY UPDATES
A few notes from the latest board meeting:
- Masks on buses (Federal mandate) and inside, no masks outside
- Social distancing still in place
- Self-screen--don't come to school with Covid symptoms, call your administrator to self-report
- No visitors or volunteers on campus (even on the first day of school)
- Field trips and Events limited to outside, small groups
- Not using water fountains, please send water bottle with student
- School age students can bring a backpack with only needed supplies
Daily cleaning protocols will remain in place at APS. We also will continue to use only filtered water for drinking and HEPA air purifiers in classrooms. Our classes will continue to pod, but with 3-4 classes in a pod instead of two. This will continue to allow for more distancing on the play structures and at lunch.
There is a special called board meeting tomorrow at 12 noon to discuss Covid protocols and plans. Please visit the ACS web site to watch on Youtube.
