Spelling Bee

The Spelling Bee word list is in Friday Folders this week. The class Spelling Bee will be the week of December 18th. The school Spelling Bee will be the week of January 8th.

In writing, we met with partners that identified the same writing goal. As a class, we focused on writing effective leads and endings to our informational pieces.

This week in reading we continued our unit on poetry by analyzing images and how they influenced our understanding. The students also added their own image to a poem to add to the tone. We ended the week talking about theme within a poem.

We continued working with adding and subtracting fractions. We learned new strategies to get common denominators. The students applied these strategies to mixed numbers as well.

Science/Social Studies

We introduced a integrated Science and Social Studies unit to our students. They will be creating and marketing an invention that could help our environment. They are currently in the early stages of brainstorming and research.

A Peek into Next Week

Writing: We will finish publishing our informational pieces.

Reading: We will wrap up our poetry unit by finishing theme. The students will take the unit assessment at the end of the week.

Math: Next week, the students will continue adding and subtracting fractions. They will apply their understanding to multi-step word problems.

Student Survey

Next week the student will be participating in an anonymous survey about their experiences in the classroom. This information is for us only, with the purpose of best providing students with what they need.

Cold Weather Gear

With the temperatures dropping drastically, we ask that all students come to school with hats, gloves, and winter coats. Please check the weather ahead of time to ensure your child is prepared for snow.
