Principal Update - Shawn Almond

I hope everyone is staying safe from the heat and enjoying their summer. We are looking forward to an exciting school year! If you have driven by the campus this summer, you have seen the construction workers busy transforming our school. The construction on the inside is scheduled to be complete by the first day of school. Construction will continue through September on the outside of the campus with the new road being built around the senior campus. The purpose of this road is to provide a safer environment for our campus and to help with traffic flow around our campus through out the school day. I will send more information out as the road becomes closer to completion.

Our staff reports this week on Wednesday, August 2nd. Many of our staff have already been working hard this summer learning and preparing engaging lessons that will challenge our students and allow them to excel. As we begin this school year, be sure to thank them for their hard work and dedication to our students.

This week we will have orientation for our 10th-12th grade students on Wednesday, August 2nd from 4:30 to 7:00pm in the cafeteria. Students will enter on the east side of the senior campus by the football field. This is a come and go event where students can pick up their schedules and parking permits. Due to construction, students will not be able to walk around the building. 9th grade orientation will be on Thursday, August 3rd from 5:00 to 6:30 at the 9th grade campus. Students will be able to pick up schedules, explore the 9th grade campus, and learn about different clubs on campus. Orientations are optional. If your student is unable to make the orientation, we will have staff available on the first day of school to assist them.

The first day of school is Wednesday, August 9th. Students will report to homeroom classes which will be posted when students arrive on campus. All 10th-12th grade students will report to the senior campus while all 9th grade students will report to the 9th campus. Following homeroom, students will follow the red day schedule (1,3,5,7). Later arrival students should plan to attend homeroom the first day. For transportation purposes, the first three days of school will end at 2:20. This allows time for students to find their buses and ensure buses stay on time through out the day.

Safety will continue to be a top priority this year. Our district's officers will be visible on campus. We have Prevention Control Officers (PCO) monitoring the parking lots, exterior doors, an assisting with traffic before school, during class change, and after school. Doors on both campuses will open at 6:40am. At this time, students will be permitted to enter the building. All outside perimeter doors will remain locked during school hours. Please report to the front office if you need to visit the campus for any reason.

One new event that I am looking forward to this year is our senior sunrise. We would like all our seniors to meet at the ORHS football field on Wednesday, August 9th, the first day of school. Please read the senior page section in the newsletter for more information.

I will be sending more school information out later this week as we get closer to the first day of school. I hope you enjoy the rest of your summer, and I am looking forward to seeing our War Eagles soar to new heights this year!
