Pillar 1: Leadership Development
District Representative Meeting: May 12th
A few weeks ago, the newly-elected District Representatives met at Houston County High School. At this meeting, representatives from Wayne County High; Houston County High; the Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science, and Technology; Alpharetta High; and Episcopal Day School discussed their new roles with our Vice President School- Grayson High. These incoming leaders engaged in teamwork activities, collaborated on ideas, and formed bonds with one another.
Maddie Key, a District 5 Representative, said she loved meeting with the other district representatives before school ended and "can't wait to see what is in store for the upcoming year."
This meeting helped to strengthen skills these high schoolers already possessed and allowed them to work towards common goals: increasing membership and student council support throughout the state.
We cannot wait to see what our district representatives plan for the 2018-2019 GASC Year!

Importance of Georgia Primary Elections
Making History
Former House Minority Leader Stacey Abrams was elected to be the first African-American woman to be a major party nominee for governor in the United States.
By handily defeating Stacey Evans, a former state legislator, Abrams became Georgia’s first African-American nominee for governor. The general election is sure to draw intense national attention as Georgia voters determine whether an African-American woman can win in the Deep South, a region that has not had an African-American governor since Reconstruction.
Republican Runoff
Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle will face Secretary of State Brian Kemp in a July runoff, after the two emerged as the top finalists Tuesday in the five-man race for the Republican nomination for Georgia governor.
Whoever emerges from the grueling nine-week runoff will face a November showdown against Stacey Abrams.
