Holiday Bucket Drummers Play Holiday Music

The KHES Bucket Drummers learned about flam and paradiddle strokes during practice last week. A flam stroke consists of two notes being played as one. The first note is smaller to indicate that it is to be played at a lower volume, while the second is to be played at a normal volume. The trick is to play the notes slightly off-set, so they have a fatter sound. The single paradiddle is a combination of single strokes and double strokes. You start by playing two alternating singles, and then a double. That's the first half of the rudiment. Then, do the exact same pattern leading with the opposite hand. When you put it all together - you have a single paradiddle!

The KMS Wind Ensemble Goes on Annual Elementary Schools Winter Tour

A treasured tradition at Keller Middle School is for the band to perform at the local elementary schools each winter. This year, the Wind Ensemble traveled to Florence, Hidden Lakes, and Keller-Harvel. The seventh and eighth grade students demonstrated each instrument to the younger crown assembled. The Wind Ensemble also performed several holiday songs, including, "Angelic Celebration", Ukrainian Bell Carol" and "Frosty's Caribbean Holiday". One elementary student is invited to conduct a piece with the middle school band. 4th grader Hudson Vincent was invited to conduct here at Keller-Harvel.

KHES Spelling Bee

KHES will be conducting our Spelling Bee on January 7, 2015 at 8:30. We would love to have your 3rd or 4th grader participate in this annual school event. In order to ensure that your child is eligible, a permission form must be returned to your child's teacher by Monday, December 15 and your child must also pass the qualifying round which will be held at KHES on Wednesday, December 17 at 8:15 in the cafe. The permission slip was sent home on Tuesday, December 2. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Amy Streeter at or Kelly Mickler at

JINGLE Gram Spirit Stick order forms were sent home Tuesday, Dec. 2nd. Spirit Sticks are $1.00 each and will be delivered to your child or their friends during their Winter Holiday party. Profits will go to the 4th grade Camp Fund. All orders and payments must be turned in to your child's teacher no later than Wednesday, December 10. Quantities are limited and will be filled on a first come, first serve basis.

Early Dismissal Requests after 2:30 pm

We are closely monitoring the number of early dismissal requests that take place after 2:30 pm each day. We are noticing that some students are being signed out early on a regular basis. We understand that emergencies and/or appointments do happen however, we ask that you allow us to work with your child until the end of the school day. The last 30 minutes of the school day is an important part of your child's day as they might miss an important topic covered in their regular class or co-curr class.

Our front office staff continues to work very hard with making sure all dismissal changes, messages, and any other communication from you to your child is done in a timely fashion. All dismissal changes & messages will continue to be given to teachers at 2:30 each day. Please make every effort to communicate your changes on or before 2:30.
