Mako Message #9
Community Update June 11, 2021
Dear Mako Families,
I am so incredibly thankful to be part of a wonderful staff and team at Maryland Elementary. Our teachers and staff have worked tirelessly to support student learning this year during a pandemic. Our virtual teachers had to navigate a new learning management system, Canvas, and help our students through technology difficulties, while trying to balance screen time and independent work. We are SO proud of our students for persisting and trying their best throughout this year. We cannot wait to see our virtual students in person in the upcoming school year. THANK YOU parents for supporting your students with virtual instruction. We know this would not have been possible without your help. While your children were learning, you were right beside them learning with them. We sincerely thank you.
Our Classic students are also incredibly resilient and continuously persisted through many challenges. As our classic parents know, we had many health and safety protocols that were mandated by the state and county that we had to follow. Students were required to wear masks all day, navigate rainy days, stay in their cohorts, and socially distance. However, our students always made the best of the situation and focused on learning. We are so grateful to our all classic parents for your understanding and support this year!
Next Friday, June 18, 2021 will be the last day of school! It will be a minimum day, so please plan on picking up your students starting at 1:00pm.
We hope you all have an incredibly restful summer and spend time focusing on your wellness. We look forward seeing you back during the first day of the 2021-2022 school, which will be Wednesday, August 18th.
Progress reports will be sent home with students on Friday, June 18th.
Progress reports for Virtual Students will be mailed home on Friday, June 18th.

Hi 5th Grade Families,
We are really excited to share our 5th grade promotion news with you.
After a lot of discussion about how we make sure as many families can participate, our 5th grade team and I decided it would be best to do a drive through promotion this year.
Unfortunately, we had too many restrictions to do an in person promotion this year and we wanted to make sure our virtual students will also have an opportunity to participate, so to make the best of it and to honor our 5th graders we will be doing a drive through event.
