All-Star Announcements

What's Happening at Venable, September 2018

Back to School Night is Sept. 20 at 5:30pm

Please join us at 5:30pm in the auditorium for a brief introduction and overview of the evening. During Back to School Night, your child will show you around his or her classroom, demonstrate routines, and give you a peek into some of the work he or she is already doing at school. We will have a station outside (weather permitting) to add a wish to the Venable wish tree (our heritage Southern Oak). We will end with our annual Back to School Picnic on the blacktop starting at 6:30pm. PTO will provide chicken and paper products. Families are asked to bring sides and desserts to share within their grade level.

We've added a few more staff members to our All-Star line-up

Please join us in welcoming our new Spanish teacher, as well as two more instructional assistants!

Reminders About After School Transportation Changes

Please keep a regular afternoon transportation schedule that is communicated with your child's teacher. If the plan needs to change, send a note to your child's teacher in the morning. If you send an email, please send it to both the teacher and to Ms. Lawson ( Ms. Lawson will confirm that your email was received. Please avoid calling after 1:30pm to change the plans. Calling late means that your message has to travel to the teacher outside of our normally established procedures, which elevates our risk for error. We will not use a child's report as a reason to change afternoon transportation; it must be corroborated by communication from an adult at home.
Big picture

Wishtree Vandalized

If you are the parent of a 4th grader, ask your child what happened in Wishtree that connects with this image of the Venable library tree. (If you are not the parent of a 4th grader, never fear; this was intentional!)

Home Visits--Not Just for PreK and K Anymore

This year, one of our staff-wide goals is to develop even stronger relationships with students and families. In the past, we've done a community walk the Friday before school starts to welcome families back and give reminders about Open House. We wanted to go further this year to strengthen our relationships with families and ensure we are effectively communicating. To that end, we have set a goal of meeting a class-worth (18-20) of students and families from each grade level outside of school. This year we are getting our feet wet and learning from the process, which is why we decided to start small. If a teacher reaches out to you for a home visit this is why--we want to get to know you, your child, and your hopes and dreams for their school year. While the home visits are purely optional, we hope you will join us on this journey and help us learn about our students from the experts--their families!
