Meet Your JYJ Counselors

Hello we are you school counselors Andrea Burston and Beth Vincent (counselor-intern).

Ms. Burston

This is my 6th year at Joyner and my 14th year in education! I am so thankful to be a part of our fantastic Joyner school family. As always, I look forward to interacting with students, staff and parents.

Ms. Vincent

I am a doctoral student working on my Ph.D in Counselor Educator at NC State. I look forward to learn and sharing during my internship at Joyner.

Minute Meetings

During the month of September, Ms. Vincent (counselor intern) and I conducted short face to face conferences (minute meetings ) with all JYJ students in grades 1-5. During this time we ask students a series of questions that allows us to check in with the students, let them reflect about their school year so far, think about friendship, where to find the counselor and to let us know if they need to talk with us more in depth. So far the minute meeting concept is going very well. We are able to collect data (from using our iPads) and look at the information and decide what areas to work on in our school counseling program. Most of all we are happy that we are able to individually meet with all JYJ students!

Class Visits

Ms. Vincent and I have been visiting some classes, re-introducing and to some introducing ourselves to our students. We also have had the opportunity to tell students who and what the school counselor does. We have enjoyed visiting classrooms!
