For the remainder of the school closure, we will be providing a 'Monday Update' to recap and keep you up to date with the latest information. We hope you will take the time to read over this newsletter carefully.

Ashley Ortega Hernandez, North Shore Middle School 8th grader, has won the Vincent Van Gogh Award: Moved Beyond Words! The 3rd Annual Mental Health Art Showcase: Art in the face of #COVID-19 contest was sponsored by the Mental Health America of Greater Houston.

Pre-Kindergarten Registration Information

Parents of new-to-district Pre-Kindergarten students may now register online for the 2020-2021 school year. This registration opportunity is for students entering Kindergarten for the 2020-2021 school year who will be 4 years old on or before September 1, 2020. Online registration is scheduled for June 8 - June 18. While Galena Park I.S.D. campuses are temporarily closed, all documentation must be uploaded into the online application.



The following documents are required for registration:

o Birth Certificate - Child’s Proof of Age and Proof of Identity

o Social Security Card

o Parent/Guardian’s drivers license or passport for identification purposes

(If you are not the legal guardian, please contact Student Admissions)

o Immunization records - must be signed or stamped by the physician or his/her designee or public health personnel

o Proof of residency – utility bill (water, gas or electric) or current lease

(If you do not have proof of residency in your name or a current lease, please contact Student Admissions)

Pandemic Electronic Benefit Link (P-EBT)

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY:


The online application for P-EBT is now open.


FAQ:


1. What is P-EBT?


P-EBT is a one-time benefit for families issued through an EBT card (like a debit card). Families receive up to $285 per eligible child. You will have one year from the date the benefits were issued to use your P-EBT benefits. P-EBT benefits are non-transferrable.


2. Do I need to apply for P-EBT?


Families that DID NOT get SNAP benefits for the month of March - Yes, you will need to apply.


· Fill out an application here: yourtexasbenefits.com/Learn/PEBT

· The application is open until June 30, 2020.


If you do not currently get SNAP benefits and your child is approved for P-EBT, you will be mailed a P-EBT card loaded with benefits... BUT you MUST apply.


3. What if I already receive SNAP benefits, do I need to apply?


Families that DID get SNAP benefits for the month of March 2020 - You do not need to apply for children ages 5-18. Benefits were loaded onto your existing SNAP card by May 22.


· If you have children under 5 and/or between the ages of 19 and 21, you will need to fill out an application for those children.

· If you get SNAP benefits and your child is approved for P-EBT, funds will be put on your current Lone Star Card.



4. Who do I call if I have questions or need assistance filling out the application?

TRADITIONAL GRADUATION CEREMONIES FOR CLASS OF 2020 SCHEDULED FOR AUGUST 2020

District officials have been working diligently to celebrate the Class of 2020 with traditional graduation ceremonies. If it is safe to gather, based on local, state, and/or national guidelines, traditional graduation ceremonies for the CTE Early College High School, Galena Park High School, and North Shore Senior High School will be held at NRG Stadium on August 2, 2020.


Please note: Subject to change, based on local, state, or national guidelines and/or governmental orders in effect.

Schedule for Curbside Meal Pick Up

Curbside breakfasts and lunches will be distributed only three days per week, with multiple meals being provided at each distribution.


Meals will be distributed at the same sites, but only on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, from 10:30 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.
