Book Fair March 19-23
We will usher in spring break with a bang as we enjoy our Scholastic spring book fair March 19-23. The book fair will be open each day from 7:20 to 2:00. Students may shop the fair any day that they bring money. They will have the opportunity to win some awesome prizes ahead of the fair when they visit the library with their ELA classes. The book fair is the primary means that we have of purchasing new books for our library, so your support is appreciated.
Digital Citizenship Breakouts!
Mrs. Brandi Caldwell of JSU's Alabama Technology in Motion recently spent four days at WIS doing a fun and informative breakout activity with the ELA classes. Students learned valuable digital citzenship skills like how to avoid phishing e-mails, create strong passwords, and stay safe using social media.
Mrs. Lee's Library Olympics
To celebrate the Winter Olympics as well as Read Across America Week, students participated in a library Olympics game inspired by best selling author Chris Grabenstein's Mr. Lemoncello series. Students were super competitive as they worked in teams to answer questions about classic children's books. Winners in each class received a custom made WIS Library Olympic Champions bookmark.

Book Review: Ms. Bixby's Last Day by John David Anderson
Ms. Bixby's Last Day by John David Anderson is the story of Topher, Brand, and Steve--6th grade students whose teacher, Ms. Bixby, has just announced that she will be leaving school soon. The author takes us back and forth between the past and present as readers learn why Ms. Bixby is so important in each boy's life. This book has received brilliant reviews, and while it started a little slowly for me, by the midpoint of the book, I was so drawn to the story of these three boys and their amazing teacher, that I could not wait to finish it. Warning, have the tissues handy for this one.
