Year end thoughts....
We know how tough this past year has been on our school community, and we are grateful for our Eisenhower families. As we wrap up 2021, I want to take a moment to thank our students, families and staff for your flexibility and support over the past year.
- Thank you to our families who have worked hard to help keep our school community safe and healthy.
- Thank you to our students for your committemnt to keep learning, even when school looked and felt different at times.
- Thank you to our staff for your flexibility as you've modified methods as needed to reach your students during this difficult time.
- Thank you to our families for reaching out to staff members with words of appreciation, encouragement, and positive emails to recognize their efforts.
- Thank you to our students for trying your best when your world has been unpredictable and routines have been disrupted.
- Thank you to our staff for your continued commitment to focus on supporting our students social/ emotional/ behavioral needs.
I know everyone is in need of some time to rest and that we are ready for some time with families over the holidays. I just wanted to pause and be grateful for all of the remarkable ways our community have helped each other SOAR through 2021.
Looking forward to ALL we our Eagles will achieve together in 2022!
1st Grade Sets Goals
Eisenhower 1st graders have been working hard on their personal goals for reading, writing, math and life skills. In September, we studied how to set a goal and develop a plan to reach a goal. As the semester ends, students are reflecting on the progress they made, allowing them to celebrate their growth!
With teacher guidance students will decide if they want to pick a new goal for each area or continue to work on any previous goals for the next Trimester. This conversation involves a discussion on the importance of making mistakes, realizing it is ok to not know everything and the importance of perseverance. They reflect on themselves as students and areas they want to grow in. Students shared their goal folders, explaining their growth and their goals for higher achievement at our recent Student-Led Conferences. This made it meaningful to the students and empowered the first graders to take ownership for their learning.
6th Graders Build their Research Skills
After finishing our genre unit, The Cay, 6th graders researched topics from the novel. Some topics explored were coconut trees, coral reefs, Caribbean cays, German U-boats, sharks, submarines, and the Queen Emma Pontoon Bridge.
During the project, students sought answers to four research questions. The questions were created by the students themselves. Then, they worked to seek answers to their questions using digital resources provided by our library, SafeSearch, MyON, and Epic!. They learned how to evaluate websites for credibility using the acronym, TRAAP. TRAAP stands for Timeliness, Relevance, Accuracy, Author, and Purpose. During the project, students were given time to reflect on the process of researching. They had to journal what search terms worked for them and when finding answers to their questions didn’t work. Students then made plans for how to proceed when set-backs occurred. After researching, students published their projects and showcased what they had learned while researching. They could present their projects in a variety of ways using Book Creator, artifacts, dioramas, Seesaw, posters and more. Sixth graders will be using these researching skills in the upcoming argument and explanatory essays. Keep researching, 6th graders!
Reminder: Please Submit Title I Community Compact ASAP
As a reminder, because we are a Schoolwide Title I School, we need to share our Community Compact with families each year for you to read over with your children and submit to us. This is required by federal law because we are a Title I school.
We are asking that each family takes a few minutes to read this over with your child(ren) and then submit it ASAP if you haven't already: Eisenhower Elementary Communicate Compact
Thank you for your continuing support and partnership.
READY OR NOT- THE COLD WEATHER IS HERE!
We're starting to see MANY students bundled up each day, which is great! Please be sure to send your child to school dressed for the weather each day. Students will start needing warm coats, gloves, hats, scarves, and/or boots daily throughout the winter.
Please take time to label each and every item- because our lost and found gets bombarded with lost winter accessories throughout the season
Please note that, per Board Policy, we will be having outdoor morning lineup and heading outdoors for our 20 minute recess(es) if the windchill is 10+ degrees.
Time outdoors is time well spent for kids, in all seasons
Lunch Aides Needed at Ike!
Lunch aides are needed every M-F at Ike. These are paid positions and applicants must be capable of going outside in temperatures above 10 degrees. Interested candidates should contact Mr. Tonn at (586)439-6600 and complete an application HERE. We look forward to hearing from you!
Health, Safety, and Covid-19 Communication
You may find Ms. Wozniak's most recent community update, sent to families on November 15th, HERE.
For updated FPS COVID-19 information, including quarantine updates, district data, testing information, etc., our FPS Covid-19 Dashboard is updated daily and can be found HERE.
***Remember, the best way to do YOUR PART to help keep our community healthy and in school teaching and learning is to keep children with any potential sign of illness at home until the cause is determined by a medical professional.***
