Mission Statement
Staff Attendance Challenge
Between Jan. 6 and March 20th, each staff member who misses two days or less will have their names entered in the drawing. You will earn 3 entrances into the drawing if you miss zero days, you will earn 2 entrances if you miss one day, and you will get 1 entrance if you miss two days.
The Real Opponents - Barriers
It's time to remind ourselves of the opponents we discussed at the beginning of the year. The ones that we all agreed upon that we face everyday ... that our students face everyday. We wrote them out and put them on our champions. Remember the conversations we had about how we each had a child in our lives that we loved who had one or more of these barriers? Remember what we said we would want from a school or teacher if that were our child? Some of those opponents were:
Home Environment
Socioeconomic Status
Parental Involvement
Motivation
These opponents have come up in discussions lately as we are analyzing data and our student achievement. While I am never going to tell you that these don't impact our students, I challenge you to see them for what they are challenges to overcome and things to problem solve. Each one of these is also ranked by John Hattie.
31.Home Environment
32.Socioeconomic Status
45. Parental Involvement
51. Motivation
Don't forget their place and don't forget your strength. You have the strength and abilities to overcome each one of these opponents and they should never become excuses.
The following from the teaching/teacher domain of Hattie's research are all stronger than those opponents:
3. Providing formative evaluation
4. Micro Teaching
7. Comprehensive interventions for learning disabled students
8. Teacher Clarity
9. Reciprocal Teaching
10. Feedback
11. Teacher - Student Relationships
13. Meta-Cognitive strategies
18. Self verbalization/self questioning
20. Problem solving teaching
21. Not Labeling students
23. Teaching strategies
24. Cooperative vs. individualistic learning
25. study skills
26. Direct Instruction
29. Mastery Learning
30. Worked Examples
These are things in our control. Things that we can study and become better and better at. These are how we become stronger than our opponents and how we build our champions. Don't ever doubt your strength and the strength of our building.
Being Intentional
"This week I was impressed to see Mrs. Medina's intentionality with her students. On Tuesday she had lunch with all of her kids who had December birthdays, as a way to connect with them and make them feel special."
Thank you Mrs. Medina for being intentional in your relationship building.
This week as you notice others being intentional around the building please share. There are so many great things happening in our building and we want to celebrate! Share out to Springhill Staff so everyone can see.

Ninja Warrior!!!
Here are the details:
Each class is working to earn 12 days of perfect attendance as a class. This means the whole class is here on time and no one checks out early. (teacher included) That would count as 1 day. Once your class has earned 12 days they be able to go to the Ninja Warrior course the last week in May. BUT don't stop trying after 12 because for every 5 days over the 12 your class will earn more time on the course. Some classes earned over an hour of time last year!
So excited to kick this off!!
