One Chapter Done!
If you think of the school year as a book, we have completed one chapter, and we only have three to go! Next week is Halloween, and several students have asked if they can wear costumes on Wednesday. The answer? Ummm...no. For the mental health of our awesome teachers...no. I appreciate the excitement of Halloween, and I look forward to seeing pictures on Thursday morning!
We had a great week at LVMS, and here are a few of the best things I've seen...

Justify your answer!
While reviewing for a Science Exam, students in Mrs. Alamo's class had to justify their answer while explaining why the other answer choices were incorrect. This question was dealing with the mass and density of rocks.

Viking Night at the Grille!
For those who don't know, Lago Vista ISD is extremely fortunate to have a very active education foundation. The Lago Vista ISD Education Foundationraises and awards thousands of dollars in grant funds each year to support our teachers and students.
There are LOTS of ways to support the LVISDEF (e.g., Amazon Smile, payroll deductions, PayPal, etc.), but a super easy way is to dine at The Grille at Highland Lakes on Wednesday, November 14th. Simply tell your server that you are there to support Lago Vista ISD and TWENTY PERCENT of your bill will be donated to the LVISDEF.
Awesome!

Tutorials?
Meet Our Staff! All of our teachers at LVMS are amazing and we want you to get to know them a little bit better! Each week we will interview two staff members with some basic questions as well as some questions that were requested by students.
Rachel Karg, 8th Grade Reading/Language Arts
Where are you originally from?
I was born in Marshalltown, Iowa. But, I’ve lived in Oklahoma, Arizona, and Wheaton, Illinois.(Fun Fact - Mrs. Karg and Mr. Holt went to the same high school in Wheaton, Illinois!)
What led you to want to be a teacher? How long have you been in education?
This is my 19th year to teach. I spent most of my time in 4th grade. I’ve taught 5th grade, and now 8th grade (which I love!) I’ve always known I was going to be a teacher from an early age. I come from a family of teachers. My grandma taught 30 years for the Iowa school for the deaf, my dad taught media and journalism for 20 years at Texas Tech, and my 2 aunts are principals. My twin sister taught special education before homeschooling her kids, and my sister-in-law teaches history at LVHS. Let’s just say...teaching is in my blood.
Tell us about your family.
I’m married to incredibly supportive and wonderful man, Kurt. I have 2 amazing children. Konnor who is an 8th grader this year, and Kendall who is in 7th grade. Both of them are highly involved in school activities as well as school sports.
What are your favorite hobbies?
I love to read and run (although I haven’t mastered doing both at the same time!)
Why do you like running so much?
Running calms me down, but It also gives me a chance to compete against myself. (I’m a very competitive person!!!) Running also gives me an opportunity to be out alone and just think about things.
What kind of grades did you have in high school?
I was a pretty strong student in HS. I got mostly A’s, but I struggled in math. I had to work pretty hard for my grades, but that’s also my competitive nature. I wanted to be the best.
What is your favorite flavor of Gatorade?
I like the light purple kind (not sure what the name of it is.)
Randenne Kelley, Gifted and Talented
Where are you originally from?
I was born in Ohio, and I lived there for five years. I have also lived in Virginia, Indiana, Georgia, California, New Jersey, Colorado, Germany, and Texas
What led you to want to be a teacher?
How long have you been in education? I knew when I was very young that I wanted to pursue a career in teaching or child psychology. When I moved to Texas, I was hired by LVISD. It is 26 years later, and I still love my job and my students.
Tell us about your family.
I have an amazing and supportive husband, a beautiful and talented daughter that loves photography and animals, and she will graduate from college in December. I also have an amazing and talented son who loves learning and music, and he is a junior at LVHS.
What are your favorite hobbies?
I enjoy spending time with my family... anywhere!... photography, traveling, camping, and snorkeling.
What is your favorite thing about teaching GT?
My students....by far! I enjoy every minute with them! They make me laugh, cry, and remember to enjoy life!
Why did you choose to teach in Lago Vista?
My parents actually chose the area because the Hill Country is as close to the mountains as you’re going to get in Texas!
What is your favorite movie?
Terms of Endearment, Steel Magnolias, and Beaches are top contenders.
