Principal's Newsletter
From the Desk of Russ Booth
November 5th, 2023
Although it is a short week coming up with an early release day on Wednesday and no school on Friday due to Veteran's Day, I am excited to celebrate a few of our outstanding students in this week's newsletter. This year we are working to bring back our "Student of the Month" celebrations. Students are nominated by our staff each month in Citizenship or Academic Achievement. We will highlight the students each month in the newsletter and they also receive a certificate for their achievement. Please be sure to see the pictures below and the highlights from the staff that nominated those selected this month.
Olivia Barry - Citizenship
I am nominating Olivia Barry for giving back to the Mansfield community through athletics. Olivia has been instrumental in her role as Youth Field Hockey Liason. She has organized her peers to volunteer coach and ref on Sunday mornings (after her own Varsity practice). Olivia also volunteer coaches the youngest of our participants, ages 7-9, and is wonderful with this age group which can be challenging! She has made this part of organizing a youth league absolutely seamless for me. Olivia ensures the staff will be there each Sunday, sets up and breaks down the field and collects equipment at the end of the session. Her kindness and support for these younger field hockey players is evident.
Samhita Ramachandrula - Citizenship
Nominated by Matthew Henry -
I am pleased to provide a Citizenship Student Recognition Award recommendation for Samhita Ramachandrula. Samhita is a junior who consistently excels academically and demonstrates a strong work ethic, as well as a keen sense of responsibility. The outstanding quality that sets Samhita apart is her exceptional character. Samhita has a natural ability and insistent willingness to create welcoming and supportive environments for her peers that foster inclusivity and fairness. Samhita's actions and positive influence in and outside of the classroom continue to contribute to a more harmonious and welcoming high school experience for all.
Well done, Samhita! You are an example for the MHS community.
Camdyn Gilman - Academic Achievement
Nominated by Jackie Collins -
Brandon Jackman - Academic Achievement
Nominated by Mike Redding -
Thanks for being such a great role model and leader for our football program and best of luck moving forward with the nomination process for the Naval Academy and West Point!
Brandon has been an outstanding student-athlete for 4 years and his most recent progress report for academics was simply outstanding with a rating of 1 for excellent/outstanding for all 7 of his classes with all A's for his current average in all classes.

AFL-COP Scholarship Program - Class of 2024
The Annual AFL-CIO Scholarship Program is in its 65th year. Through the
scholarship program, the Massachusetts AFL-CIO is honored to continue a long
tradition of helping students continue their education as they work toward creating
bright futures.
The Massachusetts AFL-CIO scholarship program awardees receive between $500
and $16,000 towards their education. Over 40 unions, central labor councils, area
businesses and charitable trusts from across Massachusetts participate in awarding
scholarships that total nearly half a million dollars. Unions in Massachusetts have
given close to $10 million in scholarships since 2000. About 1,500 students take the
exam annually to compete for a scholarship. Students with a union affiliation are
eligible for both the Massachusetts AFL-CIO awards and those awards listed under
their specific local union/central labor council. Massachusetts students who do not
have union affiliation are eligible for the Massachusetts AFL-CIO scholarships only.
