-Let's start preparing NOW for the State Spring Testing which will be NEW this year!! The testing is called Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium. This will replace MAP testing. The design of the assessments requires the students to take the assessment electronically. At home you can use:
- Typing Agent: User name: lastname/firstinitial/last 4 of their student number
Password: Their student number
- typingweb.com
Both of these are good tools to use for practice at home!

Big Learning Moments
English Language Arts
-In reading In our poetry unit we are exploringthe visual aspects of a poem, point of view and mood. Poetry is SO fun in 5th grade!
-In writing we are working on our Short Stories unit. Students have composed a "Flash Draft" so far and we are using that to to reinforce skills learned during lessons this week. We are focusing on character development and leads this week.
Math
Social Studies/Science
In Social Studies: We are doing a deep study into European explorers. We are discovering why these explorers came to the New World and how their arrival affected the native peoples.
In Science you child is continuing their science unit with the 5th grade teacher assigned.
