CDC Close Contact Definition
CDC defines a close contact to someone who has Covid-19 as someone who was “within 6 feet of an infected person for a cumulative total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period starting from 2 days before illness onset (or, for asymptomatic patients, 2 days prior to test specimen collection) until the time the patient is isolated.” There are other factors that we look at to determine the likelihood of low to higher risk exposure. In regards to the time factor only, if you spent 5 minutes at three different times with the infected person over a 24 hr. period can qualify you as a close contact because that added up to 15 minutes of time spent with the infected person.
Also, Public Health will no longer be calling close contacts. The responsibility of informing people is with the person who has contracted Covid-19. Hopefully, that person will call, and as a close contact, you must immediately quarantine for 14 days from your most recent exposure to the person who has contracted Covid-19. Also, you cannot test out of a quarantine.
Please call for any further questions.

COOPER LANDING SCHOOL
Halloween
On Wednesday, October 28, we invite all the kiddos to dress up in costume for the day. Please have them arrive at school with their costumes on. We will have some fun activities throughout the day, but due to COVID-19, there will be no Halloween Parade this year.
Parent-Teacher Conferences
Parent-teacher conferences are scheduled for Thursday and Friday, October 29 and 30. There will be no school on these days. Mr. Gossard will be reaching out to parents soon to schedule a time to discuss your child(ren)'s progress. All conferences will be held by remotely.
Holiday Swags
Many of you have been asking – will there be swags for sale this year? The answer is a resounding YES! The swags are $20 each or two for $35. Any number over two will be $17.50 each. The swags will be available a few days before Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, we aren’t able to have community volunteers help make/decorate them this year. Once the swags are ready, we will notify people by email and will display them outside the school for people to pick up. Please email Donna Tucker at dtucker@kpbsd.org with your order. You do not need to pre-pay. Thank you for your generous support of Cooper Landing School!

One important piece of news is that Molly, our PTO Treasurer has resigned. We are still accepting nominations for a new treasurer, and have not yet received any. Fear not, she has agreed to come to the next one or two meetings to help train the new treasurer before passing the torch - no accounting experience necessary, just a willingness to come to meetings. Please email nomination to Molly at mtrostel@kpbsd.k12.ak.us. Nominations are due by Friday, October 30th. Voting will occur at the following PTO meeting, Tuesday October 20th.
