IB Learner Profile Award
Each month we recognize a student and teacher who exceptionally demonstrate an IB Learner Profile attribute. For January we have recognized the "Communicator" attribute.
Communicators express themselves confidently and creatively in many ways. They collaborate effectively, listening carefully to the perspectives of other individuals and groups.
Congratulations to Ms. Noha El Sharawy on receiving Teacher of the Month. Ms. Noha has been keeping up with communication to students, parents and colleagues during hybrid and online learning. She follows up on student work and attendance. She has shown great communication with her all of her students.
Congratulations to Jana Awad on receiving the Student of the Month. Jana is an individual who consistently engages in verbal and nonverbal communication in order to express her understanding or need for clarification of the material being discussed. She takes great care when articulating her ideas (written or oral) with others, and exerts great effort in actively listening to the thoughts and perspectives shared by her colleagues. In doing so, she has made insightful contributions during class discussions and has also taken an active role in supporting her colleagues through challenging material.

Tips on Organization
Do you want to become more organized?
Study area-your study area at home should be a comfortable quiet, well-lit, and well equipped area with everything you need.
Folders-Binders-whether you use folders or binders, the important thing is that you have a system for organizing your papers. This includes throwing out any papers you don't need and putting those you want to keep in a home file.
Notebooks-use three-ring notebook with tabs for different classes. Three-ring notebooks work well because you can easily insert handouts and if you are absent you can get missed notes and insert them where they belong.
Communication-keep phone numbers and email address of students and your teachers in case you need to get hold of them.
Develop routines-have a morning routine that gets your day off to a good start. Before you go to bed, get everything ready for the next day. Put your book bag and anything else you will need in the same place each night. If there is something you need to remember in the morning, leave yourself a note.
Create a study plan-know when you study best and create a study plan that works for you. Identify anything that could interrupt your study plan and figure out how you can eliminate or avoid it.
Eliminate clutter-put away or get rid of the things you don't need or use.
Use a monthly wall/desk calendar-a monthly wall/desk calendar will help you keep track of major events, project deadlines, holidays, activities, etc.
Organize and save computer work-make sure that you save your work often. Regularly back up, clean up and organize your computer files.
Make to do lists-having a To Do list allows you to focus on what you need to do instead of wasting time worrying about how you are going to get everything done.
Good luck!!

Six Truths About Accountability That You Should Know
Accountability doesn't happen just by chance. It has to be implemented.
1) Accountability starts with you. You have to take responsibility for what you need to do in the classroom and at home. You should be defining your career goals and choices as you go through high school. Start now!
2) You are accountable. You are accountable for your success and failures. The buck stops with you. Your teachers and college admissions directors do not want to hear excuses. Always do your very best and you will not have to make an excuse.
3) Accountability is not a one-time thing. It is all of the time. You are responsible for doing your classwork, homework, projects, studying, etc. at all times.
4) Accountability applies to one and all. You are responsible for your own work but when you are doing a group project then all of you need to be accountable for your group project. When you apply to college it is only your name, your transcripts, and your test scores that get sent to the college. Take responsibility and be accountable for everything you do.
5) Accountability can not be delegated. You can not delegate your accountability for your school work to your parents, teacher or circumstances. The blame or success is up to you.
6) Accountability is the difference between success and failure. When you are not accountable and do not take responsibility for your school work then you will tend to blame the failure or circumstances on others. Don't let this happen to you. Do not make excuses. Your teachers, parents, professors and employers will hold you accountable for your actions!
