Connecting TEAM to Ready Math
Elementary Reading
DEVELOPING SUCCESS CRITERIA FOR QUICK WRITES
Most of us understand the importance of reading, talking, and writing in response to a text. We recognize a student’s comprehension improves when they write about what they read. But are we asking the right questions? Does the Quick Write task align with the standard?
How will we know? SUCCESS CRITERIA
Using student Quick Write response samples from grades K-5, participants will…
- Define success criteria
- What do we expect students to know and be able to do?
- Develop success criteria to support a student’s understanding of progress toward mastery
- Students should know where they stand in relation to success criteria
- Develop a plan for engaging teachers in developing a tool to measure success criteria
Elementary Social Studies
Examining foundational skills that guide inquiry and critical thinking in the social studies classroom
Description: This session will focus on practices that should be regularly applied throughout the year. Specific topics for this session include the following look-fors:
Teachers and students focused on:
- Collecting data and information from a variety of primary and secondary sources
- Critically examining data
- Synthesizing data from multiple sources
- Constructing and communicating arguments citing supporting evidence
- Developing historical awareness
- Developing a geographic awareness
Participants should come prepared to share specific examples observed within their school.
Elementary Science
Science and Engineering Practices: Participants will develop a deeper understanding of the Science and Engineering Practices, and their importance to K–12th grade science learning. Participants will engage in activities to learn more about the practices, including how the knowledge of the science and engineering practices and their application build over time in the progression Kindergarten to Grade 12. Learning about the practices will help teacher leaders know what to look for in the science classroom and in student work. This knowledge will also help prepare teachers for quality teaching today and unpacking upcoming standards and assessments for tomorrow.
Secondary Mathematics

Team Time
WIN Time (What I Need)
Workshops:
SIOP - A model of co-planning to support all learners, but especially EL learners
In the first session we will show teachers the difference between a content objective and a language objective and explain why both are necessary for effective instruction. The focus will be how to develop language objectives which specifically target students’ proficiency levels and help them access the content in the daily lesson. Correctly formulated language objectives reveal many aspects of the lesson from planning through delivery and assessment. Developing language objectives also strengthen teachers’ performance in all areas of planning and instruction as expressed in the TEAM rubric. This session will run as a continual series throughout the Teaching and Learning Days. The session overviews for each month are listed here.
Student Growth Portfolio Model - Darlene Miller
We will provide a brief overview of portfolio resources, the reason for the changes in the standards and platform, distribute the Task Planning Guide, explain student growth indicators, and overall teacher effectiveness. Bring your questions. If time allows, we will answer questions or create a follow up Q&A with your questions.
What is the Role of a Coach? - for Administrators -Theresa Nixon
The coaching model has changed several times and schools tend to use coaches differently. This session is for administrators to analyze how the coach spends his or her time, what kind of support the coach needs, and how to help the coach to stay connected to others serving in similar roles.
When does a student need RTI2 interventions or a different program? - Paula Sarver
This session will help participants understand the different between SPED vs, RTI2 vs. ELL interventions and determine which is the best program for these students. We will share best practices in meeting the needs of students in Tier I.
Restorative Intervention - Jeffrey Wright
This session has been scheduled for schools to collaborate and discuss how to utilize the Restorative Interventionist position. Sample plans and schedules will be shared to assist schools and serve as a starting point for how this position will be utilized in each individual school.
Least Restricted Environment with General Education - Missy Massie
As we strive to place students in the least restricted environment, teachers and administrators are asking for support for accommodations and modifications. In this session, Missy Massie will facilitate a discussion on appropriate supports.
Topics for WIN Time
Follow the link here to register for either a workshop (listed above) or an unstructured networking time. Networking time is going to be time for peers to gather together around a topic selected by the participants.
