Deviance Research Project Major Grade!! Due Friday, March 23 at the end of class
You will be researching and finding three real-life crimes, using the research guide created by Mrs Terry, and applying what you’ve learned through the unit, presenting it all in a website you will create using the guidelines set up by Mrs Bruce. For each crime you will have to address the following:
Functionalism: 25 pts
How does this perspective view the crime committed?
Which of the lower class adaptations does the criminal represent and why?
Explain how the theory of anomie applies to the crime.
Social/Symbolic Interaction: 25 pts
How does this perspective view the crime committed?
Which of Sutherlands nine propositions explains what happened?
Discuss the criminal's four social bonds. Did he have strong bonds or weak bonds? Give examples.
Which of the following best explains the crime: differential association theory, social control theory, containment theory, or labeling theory).
Using the chosen above theory, explain how that theory applies to the crime
Conflict theory: 25 pts
How does this perspective view the crime committed?
What social/criminal justice system inequalities were present that led to this crime being committed?
Must also address: 15 pts

Does the school to prison pipeline apply? Why or why not? Explain.
