Tilghman Tiger Talk
Principal's Update 2021
Week of May 24th-28th
Hello Tilghman Elementary Families,
The end of the year is approaching quickly. Please note, the last day of school for Pre-K is June 11, 2021. Mrs. Fenzel will be scheduling conferences to discuss student progress.
The last day of school for TCPS students is scheduled for Thursday, June 17th, which is also an early dismissal day (12:00p.m.).
For those who are interested, the Out of Area Request form will only be available from April 1-June 1. The County will not accept late applications. All students must re-apply each year and placement is not guaranteed. The online form can be found on the TCPS website or by following this link:

We are excited to share that TES students (1st-5th grades) will have the opportunity to attend our 2021 in-person Summer Learning. (Depending on our enrollment, we may offer Pre-K/K spots). In response to our challenging and varied year of instruction, we are providing seven weeks of support and extension (June 21- Aug. 5). This is not a traditional summer school; we have lots of fun learning planned much like camp. Families may choose weeks that work best for their summer schedules. It will take place at TES, Mondays-Thursdays from 9:00-1:00. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. Please see the Summer Learning paper that has or will be coming home with your child for additional details. If you have questions, please call the school.
As the weather gets warmer, please remember to send your child to school with a water bottle. We have water stations for refills throughout the day. If you would like to donate filled disposable water bottles or cups, please let your child's teacher know. Arrangements can be made for drop off.
Thank you for your continued support of TES. We know this year has been difficult but we will continue to make the best choices for our students and school community. #smallbutmighty.
Ms. Murdoch, Proud Principal
IMPORTANT MESSAGES FOR OUR 5TH GRADE PARENTS
5th Grade Awards and Graduation
We are busy planning our 5th grade awards and drive-through graduation on Wednesday, June 16th at 9:00. Fifth grade families will be asked to park in the parking lot off of Tilghman Island Road. Each family will be able to stand outside of their vehicle for the award presentations. Social distancing X's will be placed on the asphalt in the parking lot to ensure appropriate spacing. After the awards, families will be directed to the other loop for the official drive through graduation and to receive their certificates. Families are encouraged to decorate their vehicles in celebration of this special occasion!
Proof of Residency
Your child's transition to middle school is approaching. One of the pieces necessary for his/her transition to St. Michaels Middle School is documentation of current proof of residency. Your child will be receiving an envelope with a checklist of items we will accept for proof of residency. Copies of these items MUST either be returned in the envelope to their homeroom teacher or emailed to Ms. Jessica Baker, the School Counselor, at jessica.baker@talbotschools.org, no later than April 30, 2021. No student will receive a schedule nor begin at SMMS until we receive and approve the proper proof of residency documents. Please do not hesitate to contact Ms. Baker if you have any questions or concerns.Special Presentation
Ms. Madii Elliott, TCPS Addictions Interventionist, presented information about drug prevention (specifically alcohol/marijuana) to our 5th graders on Friday, May 14th. Ms. Elliott's presentation aligns with our Health curriculum. If you have specific questions, please contact Ms. Baker.
Field Day(s): Message from Mr. Eutsler
It has been an unusual educational year. We have been virtual, hybrid- A Day, B Day, and even C Day, as well as in-person. This has been hard on all of us trying to keep some semblance of normalcy. In hopes of maintaining expectations, I’d like to send a message out about Field Day(S)! Yes, that is an (S) at the end of Day, which means there will be multiple days in the field.
For TES, those dates are:
1. Friday May 28th
2. Friday June 4th
3. Friday June 11th
Field Day activities will be:
- conducted during PE class time
- performed outside (weather and activity-dependent)
Please make sure your child comes to school ready to participate with tennis shoes, a water bottle, and comfortable weather and activity-appropriate clothing. Even though we cannot have the traditional Field Day with families and volunteers participating along with the students, there are Field Day activities on my FROG page labeled Field Day. Each family is encouraged to take part and perform some together at home. Please share pictures and messages on the page or via email with your child's teacher or me.
I am looking forward to these activities as they are a marker that the school year is coming to a close and SUMMER VACATION BEGINS!
If you have any questions or concerns, please email me or call the school office.
PBIS Parents
Tilghman Elementary School implements school-wide Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) to improve social, emotional, behavioral, and academic outcomes for all of our students. We recognize students who show:
Productive Learning
Always follow directions
Will respect others
Self to self
PBIS- Here is one way you can reinforce respectfulness with your child at home:
Be Respectful by using Kind Language.
Describe what kind language does (and does not) sound like in your home. Demonstrate kind language and ask children to practice kind language with you. Remind your child to be kind prior to the start of the day and any new activity. For example, “Playing games together is fun; let’s remember to be kind and encouraging with our words.”
