6 YOC
In the 6 year old class we have been learning all about plants during our current Science unit. To make Science engaging and fun it is so important to include hands on experiments and activities. Luckily, this is possible since we are teaching and learning in person! The 6 year old students have a natural curiosity and motivation for learning, and they learn so much more by “doing” than just listening to information. Science experiments are about creating a hypothesis, testing it out, gathering data, and analyzing your results. Yes, even at the age of 6!
We first learned about the important parts of plants and their jobs. We created play-dough models of various plants with labels. To further explore, we conducted an experiment with celery and various colors of water, where the students predicted, observed, and discovered the important job of a plant’s stem.
Next, we discovered how plants have inspired many human inventions, such as barbed wire fences (thorns) and velcro shoes (plant burrs). The students then designed their own invention inspired by a plant using the STEM model. We filled our classroom with books and texts to inspire the students. We were able to collaborate with Makerspace, where we were able to build a model of our individual inventions.
This is how we make Science fun in 6 YOC!
Preschoolers’ Fall Assembly.
Preschoolers had a great assembly on Wednesday, October 13th. We have been practicing all week and we were ready to go. We learned so many things, so, we wanted to share with our parents and friends. Yes, we were a bit shy but being on stage was progress for us. Probably the parents were more nervous and excited than we were. Thank you all for joining us and showing your support.
Thanks with much appreciation.
