Thirteen Reasons Why
By Jay Asher
Summary of Book
Clay is a teenager who found a box full of tapes, he had no idea why he got them. With the tapes he got a map that had stars on certain locations. Those tapes have stories on why Hannah Baker committed suicide. Each tape had two sides to it. In total there was thirteen reasons why she committed suicide. The internal conflict the book had was Clay had no idea what he did to hurt Hannah if anything he was trying to be nice to her. Clay has had a crush on Hannah since a long time. The climax is that Hannah's death and Clay's possible role in it, was hard for him to take in. He got mad at himself that he couldn't stop it so he punched a fence. After hearing all the tapes he got to know a little more about Hannah Baker and what she was struggling with.
The two main characters of the story were Clay Jensen and Hannah Baker. Hannah Baker moved to Crestmont for Freshman year to have a fresh start, people ruined that for her they spread rumors about her, all of them were a lie.During her Junior year she had enough of all the rumors, she was planning to kill herself. First she decided to record her voice in 7 cassette tapes and described 13 people that caused her death. Clay Jensen didn't understand why he was on the tapes. Clay was nice to everyone, some people thought Clay didn't have any flaws. Hannah was the one that said he was perfect because he was never mean to anyone and never did anything bad. Both Hannah and Clay had a crush on each other. The only reason he was on the tapes was because Hannah wanted to say sorry.
This book takes place in various places in a small town named Crestmont. Clay would follow the map that came with the tapes. Whenever the tapes mentioned a place he would go see it most of the times. I think it took place in the present because when he received the tapes he didn't really have anything to listen to the tapes, so he borrowed a walkman from his friend.

Why I chose this picture
While he was trying to figure out why he was one of the reasons why someone committed suicide he had to listen to the tapes using a walkman.
- "You can't stop the future, you can't rewind the past. The only way to hear the secret is to press play."
- "I wanted people to trust me, despite anything they'd heard. And more than that, I wanted them to know me. Not the stuff they thought they knew about me."
- "I'm listening to someone give up. Someone I knew-someone I liked. I'm listening... but still, I'm to late."
I picked this picture because it's a visual aid of my first quote
It shows that Hannah is sad that no one got to know the real Hannah Baker
It shows that Clay is depressed about not being able to help Hannah
