NEWS FROM MRS. HAZARD, PRINCIPAL

Happy Friday SRES Families!

Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week was full of kindness at SRES! Thank you for honking to show your appreciation! Thank you, too, to our PTO for showering SRES staff with a gift card tree and a lunch coupon!

On Tuesday, I went to our 1st Grade Marketplace! It was packed full of learning and excitement as students shared their good or service with customers. Below is the learning target and success criteria for the unit: an excellent example of what we, as a school have been working on as we know it is an evidenced-based practice that has a positive impact on student learning. To our 1st grade families: Thank you for coming and supporting our students' learning!

Friendly reminder: As the days get warmer, below is an excerpt from our Handbook specific to School Dress:

General attire

-Tops, logos and words are fine-no crude, profane, violent or suggestive pictures/words.

-Bare midriffs, low cut necklines, off the shoulder or bare backs are not allowed at school.

-We use the no less than 2 fingers wide rule for straps.

-Pants should fit comfortably around the waist as students are often sitting and moving on the floor.

Footwear

-For safety, no open back shoes, flip flops or shoes with raised heels, please.

-Running shoes with laces or velcro are necessary for PE days and are the best daily choice for recess and being involved with all activities at school.

Public Notice re: Drinking water at SRES (see below).

  • SRES missed a sampling window; hence the required notice.
  • SRES has since taken samples.
  • SRES' drinking water meets Vermont's water standards.

Outdoor learning space

  • Thanks to a grant, SRES has taken steps to create an outdoor learning space! So far we have purchased child-sized picnic tables and teaching/learning supplies for outdoor use. It is our plan to continue to build upon this space in the future!

Looking ahead:

  • Week of May 15th: VT CAP (ELA) for 3rd and 4th grade
  • May 18th: Incoming K Family Night
  • May 19th: Dress as your favorite book character!
  • Week of May 22nd: Scholastic Book Fair
  • May 22nd: Montshire Museum visits K, 1st and 2nd grade
  • May 25th: BINGO FOR BOOKS at SRES; 5:00-6:00pm (see below for details!)

Happy Mother's Day SRES moms! Have a joyous weekend.

Dear Parents and Families:

Get Ready! The Scholastic Book Fair is coming our way (YAY!). Choosing their own books empowers kids and inspires them to become Bolder, Prouder, and Stronger Readers. AND—as always—every book they buy earns rewards for our school.

Here’s what you need to know about the Fair, which will take place from May 25 & 26, 2023 at Saxtons River Elementary School.

This year, say goodbye to cash and hello to eWallet—your child’s digital payment account.

Before the Fair, set up eWallet for worry-free, cash-free purchases.

If you can’t make it to the Fair, then shop at our school’s Online Book Fair. All orders ship directly to your home, and shipping is free for book orders over $25. Your online orders will also benefit our school.

Visit our Book Fair homepage to learn more and get started with eWallet and online shopping:
