March Book Madness
It’s March Book Madness Reading Tournament time!
Join us in participating in our 3rd annual March Madness book reading championship and help us crown a winner. This is a take on the popular March Madness bracket for basketball. Sixteen incredible, diverse, and inspiring picture books are placed on a bracket.
Links are posted on Seesaw and Schoology, and each book is linked to a read aloud video. Families may listen and watch the videos together and decide on which book each child likes. When you have read all the books, click the link on the last slide to register your votes.
Keep checking Seesaw and Schoology for the next round voting link.
Our winner will be announced on March 22nd!

Science Fair
The science fair is a great opportunity for you to do scientific research and share your knowledge with our school community. We are hoping that many of you will join this year’s Science Fair. Students will bring in projects and be ready to present them in school on April 18th. Projects will also be on display for conferences on April 19th.
Kruse students can participate in the science fair by creating one of the following types of projects: a scientific model, a scientific collection, a scientific demonstration, or a scientific experiment.
You can use many resources to work on your project including online reputable resources and books. Please use a display board that demonstrates your project and procedures. You can purchase your own or purchase one for $5 from the office. T-shirts are available too.
We can’t wait to see these outstanding projects! Entry forms are due to Mrs. Drew by Friday, March 24th.

Illinois Assessment of Readiness
Dear Familes,
This year the Illinois Assessment for Readiness (IAR) state test will be given to our students April 3rd through April 18th. The test includes sections in English Language Arts and Mathematics. This is an in-person assessment mandated by the State.
Families will receive a copy of their student’s IAR exam score report. Reports show how each child performed on each portion of the test and will reveal an overall score that falls within one of five performance levels. The various performance levels identify not only students who need additional academic support, but also those who Meet or Exceed grade level expectations and will benefit from academic extensions.
The purpose of the IAR exam is to better help you and our teachers support your child’s learning. No test provides a complete picture of student performance, and the IAR exam results are simply one of many factors we use to measure the progress and development of well-rounded students.
Thank you for your continued support and commitment to your child’s academic growth and success.
Your Feedback is Needed!
Our current response rate is 24%! If you haven't filled it out yet, please do so this week. Thank you for your time!
Each year we ask our parents, teachers, and students to participate in the statewide Illinois 5Essentials Survey. The survey is now available, and we are asking our families to take it as soon as possible to help us reach our response goal.
Your participation in the parent survey will help us understand the conditions at Kruse and will guide our continuing improvement efforts. Your identity and survey responses will be kept completely confidential.
To take the survey please visit https://survey.5-essentials.org/Illinois/ and select the appropriate survey to begin. The link to the survey can also be found on our district website: district146.org. Please complete one survey for each child attending a District 146 school, even if they both attend Kruse. If you have children at multiple schools, please fill out a survey for each school.
Results from the Illinois 5Essentials Survey are used to create the Illinois School Report Card, and to help our district and school leadership teams drive ongoing school improvement plans. If you have any questions about the survey, please contact 5Essentials Client Services at 1-866-440-1874.
We appreciate your time. Your responses to the survey are important to us.
