January is Mental Wellness Month. January has been designated as Mental Wellness Month in an effort to recognize the importance of attending to our mental health, especially seeing the vast prevalence of mental health issues and disorders that exist in our world.

Autism advocate and public motivator Ben Hartranft spoke at Fugett Middle School on Friday, January 13th. Ben shared about how inclusion and kindness have shaped his life with autism. Speaking with each grade for approximately 40 minutes, Ben discussed his work with The Philadelphia Eagles’ Autism Foundation, his appearances on “Ellen” and “The Price is Right” and displayed his Eagles helmet which was signed by the 2018 Super Bowl Championship team.

Ben is an amazing speaker and motivator and our FMS students came away with a new understanding of acceptance and inclusion.

While anxiety is a serious issue for many teens, some may not get treatment or even a diagnosis for it when they should because they have high-functioning anxiety, which can go unnoticed. Their stress and mental health concerns are masked under so-called “good” behaviors or outcomes, such as strong academic performance.

National Girls and Women in Sports Day inspires girls and women to play and be active, to realize their full power!

All girls in grades 2-6 are invited to West Chester University to try out some sports with members of the West Chester Women’s Sports teams. Each girl will receive a certificate and a ticket to a future women’s basketball game!

We hope that you can increase the charitable spirit in your heart this February to give the needy a chance at the sports you love.

Any 6th, 7th and 8th grader who may be interested in joining the West Chester East Swim & Dive Team are invited to attend the HOME meet at the West Chester YMCA on January 24, 2023 at 7:30 pm. Students will have the opportunity to meet the coaches and the team and to be part of the action.
