Grade 6 Information
During School Counseling lessons, 6th graders were recently introduced to Naviance, a computer program that they will use throughout middle and high school. Naviance helps students to align strengths and interests to postsecondary goals. Students created goals in Naviance for academic, career, and emotional/social (personal) areas.Later in the year, students will examine the progress they have made towards achieving their goals.
Mrs. DeHaan will continue to meet individually with each 6th-grade student to monitor their transition to middle school.
Grade 7 Information
In October students used Naviance to set goals for this school year. The students set academic goals, career goals and social/emotional (personal) goals for themselves. Students spent time reflecting on their goals from last year and why they were or were not successful. Students are encouraged to log onto Naviance at any time to check on goals. There will be time later in the year for students to reflect on the progress they have made with their goals. By the end of this month, all 7th-grade students will have met with Mrs. Barber-Devine to check in about how the beginning of the school year is going. With the first trimester coming to a close later this month, Mrs. Barber-Devine is also having additional meetings with students of academic concern and discussing a path for success. All students are encouraged to seek out their school counselor to discuss any concerns.
Grade 8 Information
A big part of the 8th-grade year is getting ready for high school. Last month students had opportunities to learn about high school options including a visit to Sheehan and presentations from Lyman Hall's Ag-Science, Wilcox and ECA (Educational Center for the Arts). Students applying to high schools other than Sheehan should be mindful of application deadlines and should attend Open Houses. Please keep in mind that a Release of Records is needed in Guidance for us to be able to send out transcripts to other schools. Some applications include a Release of Records, but not all do. If applications are not sent by Moran, we will need to be given the Release of Records. Some dates to keep in mind are listed in the Good To Know Information below. Mrs. Funaro will continue to meet with students of academic concern.
