Urgent PTO Help Needed
North School Parent Teacher Organization needs new leadership. Please consider volunteering to help lead the organization during the 2016-2017 school year. The PTO is a vital part of the children’s education, providing additional supplies and materials for teachers, play and programs for the students, and support for extracurricular activities. Without leadership in the PTO, the parent-teacher organization could cease to exist. If you would consider the role of President or Vice President, talk to Jennie Wells by Thursday, February 11. Jennie Wells can be reached by calling (573) 230-4051 or emailing jrosewells@gmail.com. You are also welcome to call Barb Martin, principal, at 896-8304 or by email barb.martin@jcschools.us for more information. Thank you for your support of the North School PTO.
From Nurse Donna:
I need volunteers to help with the Dental Program on February 25th. If you would be interested, please call me at 896-4425. In order for the event to run smoothly, I would like to have 5-10 parent volunteers. You will be helping get students to and from classes, taking notes for the screeners and a couple who would be willing to apply varnish (after watching a short training video online). I appreciate your help with this and hope to have volunteers secured at least a week before the event.
Here is our week in review:
Spelling/Word Work: *I can recognize spelling patterns and make new words by changing the beginning sound. (If I know same, then I can spell name, game, tame, lame, etc)
Reading: This week we started working with our reading buddies. My students travel to 5th grade to read to their buddies from their guided reading book/text. Some are working on strategies to figure out unknown words, some are working on comprehension and deeper thinking skills. This adds yet another opportunity in the student's day to hear fluent reading as well as practice their own fluency. It also adds the opportunity to verbally apply what they are learning, whether it be to decode a word or to talk about the story elements with their buddy.
Writing: *I can add an author's blurb to my all about book. (As soon as we wrap these books up next week, Mrs. Stoehr, our librarian, is going to display them in the library for everyone to admire! They have really worked hard on these books!
Science/Social Studies: *I can identify that magnets attract and repel each other and certain materials. *I can plan and conduct a simple investigation to answer a question. *I can make observations using simple tools and equipment.
Math:* I can develop efficient methods for adding 2-digit numbers. *I can count a combination of coins. *I can tell time to the nearest 5 minutes. *I can determine and describe the number sequence associated with one of the elements in an ABC repeating pattern (3,6,9..., 1,4,7..., 2,5,8.....)
