Word for the Warrior
What a great start to school we have had! Last week was REFRESHING to me! Our kids were happy and they were excited and time after time they told me they had a great week because they had great TEACHERS!
Thank you for making CONNECTION a priority! Many of you shared with me the many ways that you took time to connect with your class and provide opportunities for them to connect with each other! That matters more than anything!
Thank you to the many of you who are already trying Restorative Circles! Taking time to connect and problem solve in this way will help our kids feel "seen" and have a voice! We even had some teachers call the office and ask if anyone was available to "circle up" with students who needed time to problem solve! Please know we are here for that and are willing to spend time problem solving when you need us!
Our WOW (Way of the Warrior) Action Team will meet soon to determine immediate next steps in determining the JSMS plan forward with Restorative Practices. Exciting times ahead! Breathing hope and confidence into lives...it's what we do!
Take a minute (3:39) to be exact...and watch this clip from Erin Gruwell (real life teacher from Freedom Writers) and be inspired! And if you have not seen Freedom Writers, you should drop what you are doing RIGHT NOW and go watch it. I watch it EVERY year in the first months of school and am blessed each time.
"I wanted to teach my students to have a voice! Maybe they couldn't change the cast of characters they were dealt, but maybe if the pen was mightier than the sword, then maybe just maybe, they could rewrite their own ending..."
THANK YOU for being a difference maker! YOU MATTER!

Emergency Sub Folders and Plans
Everyone knows that we are experiencing a sub shortage. When quality plans are not left, this is a large deterrent for subs. They will not come back if they are left without quality plans. This has occurred at times not just with subs but even with teachers subbing for other teachers in the building.
Creating emergency sub plans will assist with this. We know there are times when unexpected absences occur. By being proactive and prepared, you AND the sub will be left in a far better place should you have to be out unexpectedly.
Please turn in contents of emergency sub folders within the first two weeks of school to Erika. She will keep an alphabetized crate with folders for each of you inside.
We need YOU to join our PTA!

Warrior ROCKstar
This week, I am choosing to present the WOW You Rock award to Amanda Cox.
Amanda was aware that Tribe Time in the past has been a bit hectic, and came up with a very inspired idea to have guest speakers for the students not involved in ensemble activities. This idea was followed up with an organized, and well thought out, system by which 8th grade teachers can enter the speakers who are scheduled to come.
Thank you Amanda Cox, YOU ROCK!!!!!
