Square Up to RTI2

“If I had an hour to solve a problem I'd spend 55 minutes thinking about the problem and 5 minutes thinking about solutions.” ~ Unknown
The Power of Digging Deeper
The first step in supporting struggling students is identifying the problem. The universal screener raises the flag that there might be an issue. The Survey Level Assessment in Aimsweb will help identify the independent and instructional levels, but still does not identify the specific deficit areas of need. For reading, consider using the PASS or PWRS to dig deeper into phonemic elements. The MCOMP assessment itself can be analyzed for patterns and areas of need. The skill analysis spreadsheet is an item analysis tool with the MCOMP and MCAP for grades 3 and up. If you would like further information on this, see your RTI2 Coach. We can work with individuals, small groups, or the entire staff at your school.
Dyslexia Meetings for Administrators and RTI2 School Leaders
Please join us for training on the new "Say Dyslexia" law that is in effect for the 2017-18 School Year. The specifics on the requirements of the law will be discussed along with ways to support students who display characteristics of a student with dyslexia.

October RTI2 Meetings
The Data Discussion Guide is a great resource for RTI2 meeting discussions. Thorough notes recorded under Fidelity Checks- Data Review Meetings are an imperative component in student intervention plans. Notes could contain discussion of attendance, changes to the intervention, change of tier, plans for additional diagnostic assessments, motivators, and more.
Harnessing Data from Aspen for RTI2 Reports
Have you wished that you could just print a list of students, their tiers, and the intervention they are receiving from Aspen? Or, a printout of the notes or decisions made during data review meetings? Or even the number of students you have moved between tiers or exited? The video below walks you through the steps of creating Aspen Quick Reports and managing field sets.

We Want to Hear from You!
Last year, we moved from paper copies of RTI2 Student Plans to plans in digital form using Aspen. We would like your feedback on using this format and give you the opportunity for other feedback on how we could make this process more efficient. Please follow this link to access an Aspen RTI2 feedback form. This survey will be available until October 20th.
RTI2 Reminders
- Benchmarking dates: Winter- December 1-20
- Please remember to send home the benchmarking letter to all students who were screened. The letter is provided for both AIMSweb and STAR (English and Spanish)
AIMSweb Screening Letter- Spanish
STAR Screening Letter- English
STAR Screening Letter- Spanish
- The Term Codes for Progress Reporting have been modified. Q1-1 would reflect the first meeting of quarter 1. Q1-2 reflects the second meeting of quarter 2 and so on.
- Enrollment letters should be generated from Aspen and sent home with students. If you receive an error that there is no data or no record, then check with the school secretary to ensure that the portal access box is checked for the student. This letter is able to be published and therefore portal access must be checked.
Running the Enrollment Letter
When running the enrollment letters remember these important tips:
- You will likely need to set the effective date back to 8/1/2016 to capture students who are just continuing in intervention
- Check the overwrite notification letter box to update the Parent Notification field on the Student Plan
- Error message after clicking Run??? Check with the school secretary to ensure portal access has been checked in the Aspen file
- Run a batch of letters from the Student tab in Aspen- filter to RTI Active students; click Reports; RTI Enrollment Letter
