MIDDLE SYNDICATE NEWSLETTER
TERM 1 2022
Welcome to 2022 in the Middle Syndicate. We are so proud of how the children have adapted to the changes due to the Red Traffic Light alert level. They have settled into their classes quickly and the teachers are enjoying getting to know them.
Introducing the Middle Syndicate for 2022
A big welcome to Yeolisha who has joined us in Room 15 from Sylvia Park School. We also welcome all of our wonderful part time teachers and learning support staff who will be working in classrooms and in various programmes with the Middle School.

Education Outside of the Classroom
We are excited to be once again working with an organisation called Outdoor Experiences to provide a day of activities and challenges for all. The Year 4 programme will be held at Eastern Beach and the Year 3 programme at Omana Regional Park on the dates listed above. More information will be sent out nearer the time. Get ready for an action packed day! The cost of this programme is covered in the activity fee so please ensure this is paid through the online payment system.
Integrated Topic for 2022
This year our schoolwide integrated topic is focused around the theme of “Through the Looking Glass”. We will use this context to explore aspects of New Zealand history, natural phenomena like heat and light and the benefits of well-being. We are also delighted that we will be working towards a musical production later in the year.
Sports Uniform and Sunhats
All Middle Syndicate children are required to wear the school PE uniform (shorts and t-shirt) for fitness, physical education and sports sessions. Please remind your child to bring these to school every day in their school bags (and take them out for washing over the weekend!) During this first term sunhats are also compulsory for all outdoor activities. We ask that all of these items are clearly named so that they can be easily identified when mislaid!
Nude Food
We continue to promote “litterless” lunches to help keep our environment beautiful. Please try and avoid wrappers where possible, using plastic containers and reusable bags instead. Any unavoidable lunch rubbish may come back home in your child’s lunchbox. We are also encouraging the children to bring water only to drink.
Home Learning
Your child will be bringing home a combination of spelling words, basic facts, Mathletics tasks and books to read on a regular basis. Some ideas on what to read and ways to encourage your child with their home reading appear at the end of this newsletter. The spelling words that will be coming home are based on our schoolwide “Jolly Phonics” spelling and grammar programme. Aspects of home learning will be discussed at the Meet the Teacher night.
Things to keep at home and things to bring in to school!
Please remind your child that toys, collectable cards and lollies are all items that need to be kept at home! While we love to celebrate your child’s birthday at school we do discourage parents from bringing in cakes or lollies to share with the class due to food allergies and sensitivities. We will still make your child feel special on their big day! Smart watches need to be used just for telling the time and not transmitting or receiving messages during the school day. If you need to contact your child during the day please go through the office.
Please do bring to school any medication that your child needs and take it to the office where the appropriate paperwork can be completed.
Child away from school?
All absences need to be reported to the school office by phone, app or email. If you email your child’s class teacher about an absence please make sure that you copy the office in on this too. We look forward to your help, support and encouragement throughout 2022 and want you to feel free to approach us with any concerns, issues or compliments! Thank you for your support so far this term and helping us all navigate through these different times.
Kind regards,
The Middle Syndicate Team
