Preschool News
Dear Families and Friends,
This week we will begin to investigate another interest area: Clothes Study. Over the next two weeks we will be investigating different kinds of clothes, the specialized purposes of some garments, a variety of fabrics, and the process involved in making and caring for our clothes. Our focus questions this week are "What are the features of clothes?" and "How do we care for our clothes?"

Hello Everyone!
Here's an update as to what's happening in our classroom!
1. We have finished our Wit & Wisdom Literacy pilot. Our class did a great job trying their best and going with the flow as we explored the program.
2. Our MTSS teacher is Mrs. Fioretti. She will be in our room a lot during our literacy blocks to work with students on specific reading and writing skills.
3. In Math, we will be concluding our place value and number sense unit this week.
6. You can shop the Scholastic Book Club flyers and order online. Our class code is YH8ZY. Please Note orders may take longer than usual as they are experiencing some shipping delays.

Grade 3 News
Ahoy, 3rd grade families!
We continued our read-aloud chapter book, Lowji Discovers America by Candace Fleming. Through read-aloud time I model what good readers are thinking and doing while spending time with text. Ask your child about Lowji's experience with his landlady, and the double meaning for "The King"! For more information about the story, please visit: https://www.candacefleming.com/books/bk_lowji.html
In our Fundations routine this week students learned 3 more "trick words": America, school, and thought. Ask your child to describe WHY they are trick words. We also put our skills to use in reading Unit 10's Story, "Cursive Letters". This story is posted in our Google Classroom. I encourage your child to read it out loud for fluency practice.
We returned to our Daily 5 routine this week. Students enjoyed Sarah Morton's Day by Kate Waters in our Listening Center to learn more about Pilgrim children. It was exciting to see the kids with their independent "good fit" book choices in hand, either reading silently or with a partner. They also enjoyed the freedom of Work on Writing in which their creativity could shine! Students used the Fundations story and searched for 7 different words within the text that utilized the long A sound spelled with ai or ay. They recorded these words, and then marked the double vowel syllables we've been practicing.
Our "authors" viewed a video about publishing at the beginning of the week during Writer's Workshop. Students are putting the finishing touches on their personal narratives.
In math we spent time reviewing our addition and subtraction to 1000 skills, then wrapped up the unit by completing the
Chapter 1 assessment.
In social studies we learned about the homes for Pilgrims, and their family life. Ask your child to describe how Pilgrim homes and families are alike AND different from today.
Our Grade 3 field trip to Plimoth Patuxet Museums is TODAY! Hoping for a smooth, uneventful bus ride to and from, and lots of hands-on learning during our visit. Thank you to the parents who volunteered to chaperone! You can check out this historical site by visiting http://www.plimoth.org/
Please remember you and your child can always access our Google Classroom to review materials and strengthen the home/school connection.
KIND REMINDER: If you need to change your child's dismissal plan, please send in a WRITTEN NOTE including my name (Mrs. McPhail), the date, your child's name, and a brief description of the plan. Please do NOT email me with the change during the school day for that afternoon. I cannot guarantee I will see the email because I'm teaching/working with your children/not near my computer, or there could be a problem with the technology system in the building on any given day. The SAFEST, BEST WAY is to always send a note with your child.
Until next week....BON VOYAGE!
