When we reach 50,000, we will have a small class celebration.
Reading
We are currently reading aloud The Lemonade War. Students are working on brochures that contain a section for each chapter. These are being collected for a grade so students should be sure they are keeping up with their work. We are also continuing to read aloud The True Story of Jack and the Beanstalk. We have had the chance to look at several different versions of the story to make comparisons. Students will also be taking a look at different types of poetry over the next few weeks.
Current Skill Focus - Point of view, using text evidence to answer questions, theme and how authors use idioms, metaphors, or personification in their writing
Writing - We will be exploring poetry and writing our own
Encourage your child to complete their independent reading each night.
Math
In Chapter 9, we will be learning how to work with larger numbers in multiplication and division. We will use partial products, lattice and traditional methods for multiplication. If your child knows their multiplication tables, you are going to see a big jump in their ability with this chapter.
Science
Two eggs have hatched!! If you have not checked it out, be sure to do so.

Other Notes
Don't forget to check and sign your child's agenda each night. Encourage them to write neatly so you can read what they should be doing. Every child should be able to communicate what they are doing in class.
Purple folders come home on Wednesday. Please make sure you are reviewing the papers and signing the folder each week. The folders are due back to school by Friday.
