VHS Band Weekly Newsletter

2018-2019 Week 12

Band Director Letter

Last week of Marching Band!!!

This is the last official week of marching band! We have put in a lot of work over the last 3 months and I can't be more proud of our students.

After this, things slow down. However, PLEASE make sure to look at the calendar regulary at www.vanguardhighband.com to make sure you are kept up-to-date with everything going on.

We will be participating in football playoffs this year. Football playoff games are OPTIONAL, however, if we do not have enough students participating, we cannot run our concessions. These games are more strict about who is allowed to volunteer. More info will be available on that at the next Booster Meeting on November 6th, 2018. A weekly signup sheet will be given based on whether or not we move on to the next level. The last two years, we have gone to the game all the way past Thanksgiving...so be prepared.

Marion County Marching Optimist Festival

Senior Night

Senior Night will happen at this week's football game (11/2/18) during halftime. We are planning to make this years event extra special because it will be ONLY for the band.

All family members who will be escorting Seniors will need to meet at the gate by the Band's concession stand by 6:45 PM so that we can get you into the game. Seniors will wear their band uniforms, but family members will need to wear "graduation appropriate" clothing.

Marching MPA

The time is here! We have poured over 3 months of work for this one 9 minute moment. The moment where for better or for worse, we do it. I'm excited to see what we can pull off this week! Are we going to be superior???

Here are some things to consider for Saturday:

  • Unlike other competitions, we will be leaving later in the day. Please plan on eating a quality lunch BEFORE you come to Vanguard.
  • It will be cooler than expected. As of Monday, it is a high of 74 and low of 52. This is GORGEOUS weather, but make sure the plan accordingly.
  • This is NOT a competition. We are performing for a rating. This rating will be announced in front of the entire district at the end of the night!

"Did you know?"

We put in over 150 hours of work into this marching show, and that doesn't include how many hours at home you put in. At the end of the day, our score is based on the hard work that you put in. Will you get the score you were hoping for? We will see. I know I have been harsh on you these past 3 months, but it is only because you all are incredible students who can make beautiful music. I can't wait to see what else we can do!

Thank You

Thank you to Vinnie Tieche, Angelia Wood, and all of the other parents that helped out this Saturday for the Rib Fundraiser. We made over $1,600 off of this fundraiser!
