New Parent Monthly Meetings with the CES Administration
Dear CES Families,
In our continuous effort to keep you informed about the crucial topics affecting your children's education, the administration team will be hosting monthly online meetings. Last month, we delved into MCAP & MAP, two vital assessments that significantly influence your child's instructional journey.
Looking ahead, next month's meeting will focus on Advanced Academics (GT) and the Maryland State Reading Requirements, specifically addressing the Readiness Act.
We will also set aside time for any questions or concerns you might have, providing an opportunity to engage with the administration team regarding all things CES. Your active participation is essential, and your input is both valued and appreciated as we strive to enhance the quality of your child's education.
Our next meeting is scheduled for November 29, 2023 at 6:00 pm. Please keep an eye on your email for the Microsoft Teams invitation, which will provide you with all the details you need to join the session.
We look forward to your participation. Your voice matters, and we look forward to your continued partnership with us.
Warm regards,
Ms. Matthews & Ms. Cagnolatti
CogAT Testing for Advanced Academics
This year, we have an exciting development for our students in 2nd (for the first time) and 3rd grade. They will be taking the Cognitive Abilities Assessment (CogAT), and it will be conducted during our regular instructional time. The assessment is scheduled for the last week of November and/or early December, and our School Testing Coordinator, Ms. Cagnolatti, will work with teachers to organize the testing schedule.
The CogAT is an online assessment that consists of three batteries: Verbal, Quantitative, and Nonverbal. Its primary purpose is to evaluate students' reasoning and problem-solving abilities. The results from these assessments are an integral part of our universal screening process, helping us identify students who may be suitable for Gifted and Talented Programs and Services.
We look forward to a successful administration of the CogAT assessments for our 2nd and 3rd graders. If you have any questions or need further information, please feel free to reach out to Ms. Cagnolatti or our school administration.
LUNCH TIME AT CEDARMERE ES
Dear Families,
We kindly request your cooperation in refraining from bringing "fast food" for your children during lunchtime. We have noticed that this practice is starting to create some disruptions in the cafeteria. When other students see outside food, they express a desire for similar treats, but not everyone has access to them. Therefore, we ask that all students either consume food provided by the cafeteria or bring food from home.
Your support in adhering to this request is greatly appreciated, as it will help maintain a smoother lunchtime experience for all students.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. Additionally, we kindly request that you make sure your child has their lunch before leaving home. If you find it necessary to bring lunch to the office, we ask that you do so no later than 10:45 am. This will help us ensure a timely and organized lunch distribution.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.

From Nurse Turner
Do you need help adding fruits and vegetables into your child’s diet? Here are a few ideas....
Children love to be included.
Let them help in the kitchen make their dinner or even pack their lunch. When they know that they help create it they are proud and more likely to eat it.
Add Vegetables to their favorite foods
Even if all your child wants to eat is Macaroni and cheese and Pizza. You can simply help make this healthier by adding vegetables to it such as broccoli in the macaroni or on top of the pizza. Make it fun and let them come up with a crazy name for it when it includes the vegetables such as polka dot Mac & Cheese.
Make sure vegetables and fruit are offered at every meal.
Make them front and center on the plate. Tip: Encourage family members to take a larger portion of vegetables and smaller of everything else.
Do you have children’s clothes laying around that no longer fit? Please consider donating them to the nurse’s office. We are calling home often due to students not having back-up clothes and none to loan out if the Nurse’s office.
