Story Book Hollow

Growing and Learning Together

**** JANUARY NEWSLETTER ****

The holidays are over and it's time for a fresh new year to start.

Last month all of the children enjoyed learning about the different holidays that are celebrated in December, as well as how the weather changes during the winter time. It may have not felt like winter until recently but the children loved discussing the differences from Fall to Winter.

This month we continue to explore themes of winter. Your child will be learning about different animals that hibernate and will be putting their own bears in a cave to "hibernate" for the winter. They will also have their very own Ice Age and freeze dinosaurs and then thaw them, just like the Big Thaw.

One of our favorite authors is Jan Brett. At the end of the month we will be having a Jan Brett reading marathon and making projects and participating in many fun activities. They'll even learn about animals they never knew hibernated!

Every month we hand out Scholastic Book Order forms. When you get your catalog you can put your order through online using our school code GPFFD. By ordering online you will have access to more books and resources then are in the catalogs, use a credit card and the process of placing your order is much faster. Be on the look out for January's book order catalog.

Progress Reports go out this month before Parent conferences. For our 3 and 4 year olds we use The Handwriting without Tears progress reports to assess handwriting skills, spatial awareness, multi task directions, fine more skills, number, shape and color recognition, attributes and more. There is also a secondary component to the progress reports that assess your child on a more personal level by their teacher. If you have any questions at all please don't hesitate to ask. Don't forget to sign up for a conference time slot, or if doing a phone conference works better please let Carina know.

PLEASE MAKE SURE TO SIGN UP FOR THE REMIND APP, IT WILL BE OUR PRIMARY COMMUNICATION SYSTEM FOR WEATHER RELATED SCHOOL CLOSINGS/REMINDERS/NOTICES.
