The FCPS Board of Education on May 22,2023 approved Edmentum as the 2023-2024 credit recovery/initial credit platform. Edmentum will replace Odysseyware and Edgenuity as a credit recovery platform. Edmentum will also provide an opportunity to expand our resources for initial credit as used by our Virtual Learning Center..

The Odysseyware and Edgenuity platforms and data will not be accessible at all after June 30th, 2023. Students will need to complete all current coursework in those platforms before June 30th.

You will need to send your official final transcript to your college/university through Parchment. Please click on the link below to order your high school transcript. You must create an account if you don't have one.

Students who attend our in-person program must be at least 16 years of age and must be at least 1 year behind in their high school credits. The re-engagement program accepts applications all throughout the academic year. Applications are reviewed weekly. The review process could take as long as three weeks depending upon the information needed and the speed with which the information is provided.

Success Academy admits students in a cohort system. Groups of students are admitted as follows:

July, August, September, October, January, February, and March

Admissions Criteria:

• Students must be between the ages of 16-21
• Students must be 16 when submitting an application
• Students are behind their same age peers in earning credits toward high school graduation

We also serve:

• Students who have extenuating circumstances that prohibit them from attending school during regular school hours
• Students who have been enrolled in high school for 2 years and is still classified as a freshman.
• Students who require full time employment to take care of family responsibilities.

Success Academy is an application only program. Students who are interested in attending the virtual program must submit an online application.

Our virtual program is open to middle or high school student who reside in Fayette County. The application period for this year has closed, however, those who desire to apply for the current school year may submit a late application. Placement for this year is not guaranteed. Students will be placed on a waiting list and staff will communicate with families should an opening occur.

Our students are typically:

• Students who struggle with anxiety and focus much better learning from home in their own environment. They attend regular google meets and enjoy looping with their teachers.
• Students who are professional performers and can not participate in a brick and mortar school. They attend regular meetings and the school events throughout the year while having the ability to act, sing, etc., in professional capacity.
• Students who prefer to learn at their own pace for various reason (they have a job, wanting to work on their own, etc.). They participate in canvas and occasionally on google meets.
• Current A1 Athletes who are hoping to attend a D1 school. These students find it easier to work with in a smaller school environment and attend google meets. These students typically workout in the morning with the A1 team then join their teachers on google meets. These students need to extra flexibility in their schedules.
• Students who have been the victim of bullying and need to feel safe. The virtual environment gives them the chance to focus on their school work without fear. They are usually students who were very successful in school but when the bullying started, their grades began to suffer.

In the future, Non-Traditional Instruction (NTI) may be utilized when winter weather prompts school closures. With an NTI weather day, school buildings are closed but students participate in learning at home so it counts as a school day and does not need to be made up or added to the calendar. Students use their Chromebooks to complete lessons virtually.

Part of our PBIS expectations are to instill in our students that they must persist, persevere, and progress. Those three P’s are the foundation of our school program. Though some students have gotten off track, they must persist, they may have set backs they must persevere, persisting and persevering will produce progress. These characteristics are part of why the eagle is such a revered bird. The Golden Eagle is a prime example of persisting and persevering.

Golden Eagles are very agile in flight and they can remain in the air for hours. They have a graceful, soaring flight with their wingtips being slightly upturned. They can fly at altitudes where no other bird can fly. This powerful eagle is North America's largest bird of prey and the national bird of Mexico. These birds are dark brown, with lighter golden-brown plumage on their heads and necks. They are extremely swift, and can dive upon their quarry at speeds of more than 150 miles per hour.

Golden Eagles (and its feathers) are highly respected and considered sacred within American Indigenous traditions, culture and religion. They are honored with great care and shown the deepest respect. They represent honesty, truth, majesty, strength, courage, wisdom, power and freedom.

Powerful lessons from the eagle:

1. Eagles are not afraid to fly alone
2. Eagles have excellent vision and concentration
3. Eagles love the storm
4. The eagle tests the level of commitment before engagement.
5. The eagle is a master of change management.
6. Rebirth involves death of the old-self

There will be a summer graduation on June 21st at Frederick Douglass High School. Success Academy students who complete and submit coursework by June 8th excluding the Civics Exam will be eligible to participate in June commencement.

Each year we look for community partners to assist us in providing community service opportunities for our students. In return we ask our partners to help us promote pride in our program and to celebrate the accomplishments of our students. We are looking for partners to help us with our wishlist:

• Signage for our walls
• Continue to showcase our wall of graduates
• Purchase school swag for students and staff
• Paid internships for students
• Business cards for staff
• Information flyers about our school
• Help us get equipment for a video and photography club for our students
• Art instruction for students
• Piano instruction for students
• Continue decorating our meditation room

I am very pleased with our Success Academy Program and I want others in the community to know more about what we do. I am of the mindset that if we don't tell our story no one will or they will make up a narrative about our program.

Many people don't know that we have actual teachers teaching our students. I will begin showcasing our teachers each week in our newsletters. I also want to hear from students and parents. Those stories are the most impactful. I would like to have photos of what school looks like from the perspective of our students and written testimonials from our parents that we can share on our social media sites.

The Non-Traditional Instruction Program (NTI) is a program that encourages the continuation of learning on days when the entire district is closed due to health of safety reasons. School districts create plans to deliver instruction to every student in the district and provide for student and teacher interaction on NTI days, with the ultimate goal of continuing instruction.

• Wintry forecasts, severe weather, or poor road conditions can prompt Fayette County Public Schools to change routines or daily schedules in the district. It's a good idea to prepare in advance, especially if you need to arrange child care. We make the announcements as soon as possible through the local news, social media, the district's website, FCPS-ETV, and via phone calls, texts, and emails to our families. Please make sure we have up-to-date phone numbers and emergency contacts for your family.

• Success Academy NIT Information

In the Fayette County Public Schools, we are committed to teaching the whole child and we recognize that academic and social-emotional success go hand in hand. Ensuring a safe and respectful learning environment where everyone feels welcomed and valued begins with setting explicit expectations for how we will treat one another at school.

Just as teachers set clear classroom expectations for student learning, the Fayette County Board of Education has adopted policies to set districtwide expectations. The purpose of the Student Code of Conduct is to communicate all the district policies related to student behavior in a single document. Developed with the input of students, families, teachers, and administrators, the guidelines follow law and policy, communicate the high standards we have for students, explain the process that staff members follow when issues occur, and outline consequences for misbehavior.

For the first time this year, the Student Code of Conduct is moving to an electronic format. This shift was based on the work of students in the Go Green Club at Henry Clay High School, who surveyed students across our district about how they use the document. To ensure everyone has access, the Student Code of Conduct will be available in multiple languages on the desktop of the Chromebooks issued to every student in FCPS. Paper copies are also available by requesting one here or by calling 859-381-4100.

Elevate is the platform for our Individual Learning Plan (ILP). Each student ( 9th-12th grade) will need to have 10 Moments in Elevate this school year.

●Each student will capture “Moments/Milestones” during their high school years by documenting their experiences.

Examples of Moments:

1. All students should have the Career Assessment from Virtual JobShadow (REQUIRED) Virtual JobShadow
2. Sophomores and Juniors should log the ACT test from this year. Seniors should also log their ACT scores.
3. Students that attended the Career Fair should log this moment
