Staff Spotlight
This week our spotlight is on one of our Social Studies teacher, Ms. Measles. Ms. Measles has been at Prestwick for three years and is teaching World Cultures to our 6th grade students and Texas history to 7th graders. Here is what Ms. Measles has to say about her journey as a teacher, “As I embark on my second year at Prestwick, I am excited to see what the future holds. My path to teaching wasn't the most traditional. I went to Texas A&M and received my degree in International Studies and History. I always wanted to find a way to improve the world, but I did not consider teaching until my last semester of college. My original focus was international law enforcement. After a few big life changes, I decided to use my love of history and different cultures to help middle school students. I know that my subject is not everyone's cup of tea, but I truly believe the skills I am teaching will help students thrive in a globalized world. As a teacher, it is important to me that students are always trying to improve. I care more about learning and less about perfect grades.”
Benchmark Testing This Week
Dearest Parents and/or Important People,
Our Fourth, Fifth, Seventh, Eighth as well as some 6th graders will be taking STAAR benchmarks next week. These assessments will guide our instruction in the Spring semester. Students who travel for 7th grade athletics should report to Prestwick on the mornings listed below. Your learner(s) will take the tests as follows:
Tuesday, Feb. 11th
4th Writing
5th & 8th Math (8th Math on level, 7th grade PAP and 6th Compacted Math)
Wednesday, Feb. 12th
5th, 8th- Reading
7th - Writing
(Each test will take part on the designated day and students will have a four hour time limit work each day. )
Students have worked hard this year and have many skills to demonstrate on these two days. We are confident your students are well prepared and ready to give it 100%. A few tips to maximize your son and/or daughter(s) success are…
Students should arrive on time. Please do your best to make sure there are not any conflicts with out of school appointments on these days for your student.
Get a good night’s rest in order to feel alert and ready to focus.
Eat a healthy breakfast either at home or at school.
Have a positive send off for your student in the am. Students should feel supported by you as well as confident that they are prepared. We know some nerves are typical and healthy. Again we will assure students that all the hard work until this point of the year is their preparation.
We want to remind parents and students that on testing day all cell phones and/or electronics including smart watches must be turned in to the teacher during the test for test security reasons. Cell phones will be taken care of and returned as soon as testing has concluded. We understand students have phones for various reasons and just want to encourage them to follow procedure and turn them in. Thanks in advance for reminding your student to do so.
If you have any questions please feel free to contact your child’s teacher or our office at 972-947-9450.

Christine Gibson

Dual Language Parent Meetings
We're trying to expand our reach and we think you can help by word-of-mouth. You may have a neighbor or friend who has an incoming Little Elm ISD kindergartner. We want them to know about our upcoming Dual Language parent meetings.
Dual Language is a Spanish and English two-way bilingual program that begins in kindergarten. Interested parents who have incoming kindergartners for the 2020-2021 school year should plan to attend one of two parent meetings: the first meeting is Wednesday, February 26, at Brent Elementary at 6:30 p.m.
The second meeting is Wednesday, March 25 at Oak Point Elementary at 6:30 pm! For more information about the District's Dual Language Program, visit our website at www.littleelmisd.net/duallanguage
