PurposeFull Practice: Responsibility, Lesson 1
Dear McKinley Family,
As stated last week, we began our first lesson about Responsibility on Monday of this week. As I tell our Little Mallards, "You can be super smart and super likeable; however, if you aren't responsible it will be really difficult to accomplish the things that you want to accomplish in life (i.e. education and career)."
Although our students are young, now is actually the best time to lay the groundwork for becoming a responsible person: getting to bed at a descent hour, choosing healthy snacks, practicing good hygiene, exercising, limiting screen time, completing small chores at home, being punctual and prepared for school, and so on. In order to accomplish these things, we (as adults) must define, explain, model, and expect responsible behavior from our children.
Lastly, I have included information about Red Ribbon Week. Unfortunately, many lives have been harmed, altered, or destroyed due to substance abuse. Now is the time to purposefully discuss the importance of being responsible and making healthy choices. Our students took a pledge this week to stay drug free. I have included a link to a Parental Pledge as well, in both English and Spanish.
Overview of Resources:
1. Definition: Responsibility
2. Links to Parent Resource Letters (English and Spanish) re Responsibility.
3. Excellent Read Aloud: A Little Spot of Responsibility.
4. Red Ribbon Week, Parent Activities and Resources Link: Drug and Alcohol Awareness and Prevention. It is never too early to start having these discussions.
5. Parent Pledge to stay Drug Free.
Wishing you a wonderful and safe Halloween, and fun filled weekend.
Warmly yours,
Mrs. O (Ormachea)
