Walker Back to School News
August 3, 2020
Dear Walker Parents and Families:
We would like to provide you more specific information regarding our plans for a safe return to school for the 2020-2021 school year. Our goal is to provide high-quality instruction for all students while implementing the safety practices recommended by the Arkansas Department of Health to keep our Wildcats staff safe and healthy while they learn. Our staff members, parents, and students met to develop a plan for our safe reopening. This committee worked through the guidelines provided by the Arkansas Department of Education and the Arkansas Health Department to develop this plan. Thank you to those of you who joined us for our reopening committee. Your child's safety is our number one priority. We have a graphic listed below sharing some of our new safety measures.
The Springdale district administrators have continued to meet throughout the summer to collaborate on three models of teaching and learning that will be provided to create the most flexibility for our families while making the necessary changes to ensure students are safe when they return to school.
Springdale schools will offer your child three options for the 2020-21 school year: Our goal is to see all of our wildcats back to school for on-site instruction at Walker with us.
1. Full in-person instruction, 5 days per week
2. Hybrid/Blended Model at Walker Elementary
Two days a week (Tuesdays & Thursdays)
Three days a week (Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays)
3. Full Virtual with enrollment at Don Tyson School of Innovation in Springdale.
If you would like to sign your child up for either the traditional five days a week of on-site school or blended instruction at Walker, please fill out this survey linked below. Blended instruction has two options. Students can attend school three days a week at Walker on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, or in the two days a week blended option, students will attend Walker on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Blended students will work at home when not in school on assignments provided by their Walker teacher. All students in K-2 will be using See Saw and students in 3-5 will be using Google Classroom as their learning platform.
To sign up for on-site or the blended options. Please click on this survey link.
If you would like to sign your child up for full virtual learning, please fill out this survey to let us know that you would like to enroll your child in the full virtual learning at DTSOI.
If your child is not yet enrolled in Springdale and you would like to enroll, our registration is online. To register your child, follow the link (https://www.sdale.org/o/springdale-public-schools/page/new-student-registration--28). Once you complete registration online, Mrs. Vickie, our registrar will contact you to finalize your child's enrollment.
All parents/guardians will need to complete the online information update for the 2020-2021 school year. This information is used to effectively communicate with you and your student(s). This information is critical to your child’s health, safety, and well-being. Please use this link (https://rgupdate.sdale.org/) to update. It is important that we have up to date contacts for all of our families.
All students in kindergarten through fifth grade will have a supply fee of $30.00 for school supplies. You can pay this fee online using this link:(https://osp.osmsinc.com/SpringdaleAR/).
We have planned back to school night as a drive-through like what we did in the spring. Kindergarten, 1st grade, and 2nd grade will be on August 19th from 4:00-5:30. 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades will be on August 20th from 4:00-5:30. On these two nights, families will be able to meet the teachers.
Please reach out to us if you have any questions or need help connecting to the links provided! We can be reached at (479) 750-8874, from 8:00-3:00 each weekday, or by email. Below this message, you will see a back to school video sharing how the changes we have made to ensure your child is safe and healthy at school. We have a second video that is a hello video message from our staff. We miss you all so much, and we can’t wait to see you all at our back to school nights and on the first day of school, August 24th.
Thank you for your partnership,
Mrs. Lynn Ryan, Principal, email@example.com
Mrs. Carrie Farris, Assistant Principal, firstname.lastname@example.org
